Default Crisis config for nightfight

I have a 500 pt night fight game coming up. I suspect against marines, but am not 100% certain. I will try to field two, maybe three, crisis suits. What config would people recommend?

well of course, you need black sun filter, hard wired, and i would go with Shld generator, plasma rifle, missile pod.

Black sun filters are 3 points to hardwire, but only team leaders, shasvres, or commanders may do that. To get to a team leader, you need to spend another 5 points to upgrade. Even then, only a model with a BSF can use that spotting distance - not squad members that don't have it.

Still, BSFs are worth many times their weight in gold in night fight missions.

But if only the leader can use it, ie at best 50% of the squad, or 33% if I field a squad of three, is it worth it?

I think its best to look at the tanks >, not CS in thier current incarnation. But if you did decide to use some BSFs, Id go with something that has long range weapons, night fight is supposed to be randomly determined right? So you want to make sure your able to make the most of it when it comes up.

This is why I try not to field teams of crisis. Monats never run into this kind of problem. Have any more elite slots?

Still it's better than nothing, just toss it onto the things you really want to be able to hit at range. Probably any tanks and as many deathrains as possible, without stealing points from elsewhere.

Remember the average NF roll = 21. (7x3) With a BSF that goes up to 14x3 = 42! With a much higher possible max of 72, maximum railgun range.

Stealth suits are also FILTHY DISGUSTING in this matchup, your opponent's night fight rolls are halved. Well, in the old codex anyway. So grab 12 stealths and hurry up to victory! =p

if you allow for IA3 black sun fliters can be taken as a support option for normal suits

So I take it then that people recommend weapons with long range, ie missle pods, and trying to maintain that range with BSFs?

It's just that we already have three weapons that are fairly effective at range - railgun, ion cannon, missile pod - so if you want to take those, you'll need BSFs.

The upside to doing this is that your opponent will struggle to damage your long range weaponry. The downside is that you have to pay for BSFs. You can adapt your list either to using more close ranged weapons like fusion blasters, or pay the points and keep using the long range weapons.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. The latest and greatest version (for me that is) of the Deathrain Monat is to take TL Missile Pods + Black Sun Filter. A total of 46 points (IA3) to mass destruction! It has the ability to fire at long range, and is able to see it's targets; and sometimes without any retaliation at all!
