Default Ending movement in mid-air?

Well the that's pretty much my question, can Tau (or anyone) end their movement phase in mid-air?
Say for example there is a 5" high wall between a unit with a Jet Pack and the enemy, can they "Jet" up 6", Fire their weapons, and then "Jet" back down 6"?

I would imagine this were possible if there was a platform or balcony or something, or if the wall was wide enough to balance a model on top. I think you'd have to take a dangerous terrain test though, as normal when jetting into terrain.

guess its pretty possible, though for game mechanics you'd have to move them past the wall to get LOS. Nothing stopping you moving 1" forward and 1" back.

As for ending over, Skimmers can.

Hi,

In 40k Jump-packers and Skimmer movement is not real flight, but movement in leaps and bounds or hovering slightly above ground level (for jump packs and skimmers respectively).

You can not end your movement in the air, the only exception is skimmers can end their move above terrain, however no unit can hover in the air over open ground to improve their line of sight.

The best option is to use a jet pack to move in front of the terrain to shoot and then move backwards in the assult phase. The closest thing is the eldar crystal targeting matrix which allows them to shoot during their movement phase, but even with this they can not hover in the air, however they can move above a forest, fire and then move behind it with the rest of their movement.

Close. They can move around area terrain, but models with Jetpacks can not end their movement phase over it. They would be in the forest, in this case. The rest is correct. Jetpacks can never be used to gain elevation for LOS purposes, unless they can be moved onto a higher structure. Skimmers, on the other hand, may actually float above Area Terrain, although they still can not "pop up" behind it.
