Default Viability of crisis suit heavy armies?

I was wondering how dangerous a troop-elite heavy army can be.

With only 2 railguns i may not have much in terms of STR10 firepower, but i am gonna throwing around 8STR7, 4-5STR8 and up to 6STR6 plasma shots.

So, is it viable to not spend the points on the last heavy support slot to get another 2 crisis suits and an extra commander? It give me a total of 5 JSJ units of which 3 are scoring units. I'm thinking ill be able to annoy the crap out of my opponent whilst shooting them to pieces.

Whaddya think?

I could work out the points cost, but I'm lazy and thought best to ask: What size of game are you looking at?

Also, who's your enemy?

I'd say generally you can go with that fine. 2 Railheads is quite a veritable amount of firepower. Lots of suits is always fun though. Always.

This will be for my 1500 point army, and im thinking about going missile/fusion/plasma heavy, to really bring on the pain (those space marines i just wanna kill them ALL) as ill be using my considerable troop choices to whittle down any hordish units into oblivion.

One member of another Tau board posted a suit army based on the new codex.

HQ (245)

Shas'O
- [Plasma, Fusion, Vectored Thrusters, Stim Injectors, HWMT]
Shas'O
- [CIB, Burst Cannon, C&C Node, HWMT]

Elites (323)

1 Crisis Battlesuit
- [Shas'vre, AFP, Burst Cannon, MT]
2 Crisis Battlesuits
- [Team Leader, TL Burst Cannon, Target Array, HWDC + 2 Shield Drones]
- [TL Burst Cannon, Target Array]
2 Crisis Battlesuits
- [Team Leader, TL Missile Pod, Target Array, HWTL, HWDC + 1 Shield Drone]
- [TL Missile Pod, Target Array]

Troops (310)

12 Firewarriors in Devilfish
- [SMS, Target Array, Decoys, Multitracker]
10 Kroot

Heavy Support (615)

2 Broadside Battlesuits
- [Teamleader, Target Array, HWDC+2 Shield Drones]
- [Target Array]
2 Broadside Battlesuits
- [Teamleader, ASS, HWDC+2 Shield Drones, Plasma, HWMT]
- [ASS]
2 Broadside Battlesuits
- [Teamleader, ASS, HWDC+2 Shield Drones, Plasma, HWMT]
- [ASS]

Total: 1493

Now the loadout of all the suits is not exactly my play style, the army type does seem like a lot of fun ;-)

I've got one in the works on the old rules that looks like this:

HQ
El (PR MP MT) 85
El (PR MP MT) 85

Elite
XV8 (PR MP MT)*2 130
XV8 (PR MP MT)*2 130
XV8 (PR MP MT)*2 130

HS
BS (SMS ASS TmL HWTL) 102
BS (SMS ASS) 90
BS (SMS ASS TmL HWTL) 102
BS (SMS ASS) 90
BS (SMS ASS TmL HWTL) 102
BS (SMS ASS) 90

Troops
FW*12 120
DF (MT DL TA SMS) 125
Kroot*10 70

1451

[size=8pt]Some Points costs removed; Sorry about that... - Aunny[/size]

Now, I haven't read the new codex yet, but I was under the impression that you could not fire a guess range weapon, (in this case the fragmentation launcher) and any other weapon. Will the multitracker allow you to fire the frag launcher and the burst cannon?

You can fire the Frag Launcher BEFORE the burst cannon, as you must fire them before you measure any other shots.

Suits are amazing if used properly and supported by other units. Having many shots is still important, and pumping so many points into suits that you only have... 12 fire warriors and 10 kroot as your troops is a terrible idea. Not only will any marine/necron army you play whine about cheese, but it's not that strong of an army....

I would fear this a lot less than facing an army anything like mine :-\

well ill be using 2 mounted units of FW, one carbine unit of 10, a unit of 3 stealths, and 12 kroot for the main body of my army, which will give me about 40 odd infantry models

Viable yes, flexiable...not really.

Though i would love to see a deepstriking O'shovah with full burning eye retinue equipped with targeting arrays....16 re-rolled plasma shots.
