Default Sept Colors

In Tau there are many different Cadres, or Septs.

I was wondering, is there a list of all the Septs? And if you make up your own scheme, can you name it your own? Mine is like the T'au sept but it has many variations, like lots of red on it. I was thinking renaiming it K'au sept or somthing.

If there is a list, please supply a link. Thanks!

There are a bunch of septs in the back page of the codex. There really aren't many more than that, the Tau empire is a pretty small place at present. Some more are named in this month's WD and will presumably be in the codex, along with their color schemes.

Each Sept has it's own 'official' colour. This doesn't take the form of a full colour scheme like Space Marine Chapter colours, or Eldar Craftworlds, etc. Instead, the bar-code style markings (which link back to traditional Tau warpaint when they were plains tribes) upon a Tau's armour, wargear and battlesuits show which Sept he hails from.

T'au - Sept colour White
Ke'lshan - Sept colour Golden Yellow
D'yanoi - Sept colour Ice Blue
Au'taal - Sept colour Scorpion Green
Sa'cea - Sept colour Fiery Orange
Bork'an - Sept colour Hawk Turquoise
Vior'la - Sept colour Blood Red

So for example:

The above Battlesuit would come from Ke'lshan, as shown by the Golden Yellow. The red scheme, could just be camouflage for a rust-red desert environment, etc.

The above Fire Warrior, is in the traditional 'classic' paint scheme, which is actually the Tau 'dress uniform' as it was the first style when the Tau were still confined to their homeworld of T'au. The red-markings on his pulse rifle show he (or at least his weapon) belongs to the Vior'la Sept.

Hope this aids your painting everyone.

the new WD and the new Codex have some of the colour schemes for the Septs in them. but there are loads of colour schemes with no specific Sept attached in the current codex.

Thanks alot. A question still remains.

I was thinking of making up a sept that is close to the Tau original homeworld. It is basically the same scheme, but with different colors here and there.

So, can you make up your own Spept and Sept name?

Sure you can do it. It would be hard to say it was a major sept, if it hasn't been named anywhere else, but nowhere does it say that ALL Tau septs have been mentioned.
