Default Do Fire Warriors need upgradeable weapons? (Ex. SM get lascannons, etc...)

I think the Tau should have a(n) upradeble weapon, like a burst cannon. What do you think?

i think it would be cool to have that but im not sure i would sacrifice a 30" gun just for that

I think the tau are fine without the infantry squad upgrades, it keeps us efficient and it keeps the theme of the team, if we had weapons upgrades then we wouldn't need other units for support.

An upgradable SOMETHING would certainly make them more useful. You'll probably get a lot of flak with this post from the "it's against the fluff" and "but the no heavy-weapons is what makes them different" crowd, but really the lack of options makes the firewarriors a very inflexible unit, tactically. Interestingly, standard "troop" selection of the Tau army is probably the LEAST tactically flexible of the entire Tau list. Rather amusing, and sad, really.

Some kind of special weapons would make the mobile units much more valuable, and heavy weapons would make a static list much more viable. As is, I take as few fire warriors as possible most of the time....they're just a drag on the more effective units.

GW tried to make them more modern and original with the markerlight idea, envisioning squad leaders guiding seeker missiles in as the equivalent of another race's heavy weapon. Good idea, but it never really works out nearly as well.

No. Tau are ste apart from the rest as their whole team does the same thing, no point sinks like giving marines a lascannon, I mean you will never shoot a bolter at a Leman Russ not would you?

I disagree with that. we need different squads for everything so wed end up forgetting something and being overwhelmed by whatever because we dont have a weapon (in the army choice) to neutralize that threat effectively

LOL...yeah, the huge point sink that is the lascannon. Suprising so many players bother taking that thing when it reduces the effectiveness of the pure-bolter tactical squad.

I'll take two 6-man las/plas marine squads over two 10 man firewarrior squads any day of the week. Why? The marines can kill anything (fairly quickly, too), while the firewarriors are only really effective against light infantry and light vehicles.

Specialization can work fine at times, but is anti-light infantry/armor isn't a real need in the Tau list. As a general rule, specializing for power (high strength/low AP) is always the preferred method, as it will always be effective. Specializing in light stuff runs the risk of being worthless (or near enough) against tanks, +2 save monstrous creatures, etc.

While i twould be nice, we'd need a tauish weapon to play the role. In the new codex, the entire squad can have carbines. Plus, at 30" and str 5, we have a great basic gun. The only thing I could see is giving them a blast pulse carbine or something like that, but I like FWs as is, plus, the markerlight on the shas'ui is so useful now.
