Default Using Kroot as a shield

I saw a guy about a year back using Kroot to shield his Broadsides from fire. I was just wondering if this is or ever was legal. So basically I'm asking if Kroots block LOS to Broadsides.

Not under 4th edition rules. He may have been playing under the 3rd edition rules where that was possible, however I never saw the logic in using kroot as a shield, there cheep, but not cheep enough to be used as shields.

Kroot don't block LOS, just look at the models.

You would require a passed Leadership test to shoot at them, but the line of sight is not blocked in any way.

what an absolute idiot he must have been. For the last time kroot never should be used as a shield for any unit no matter how super fantastic. kroot are as good if not better than most units and i am sick of them being treated this way! They are a lot better than people give them credit for. > (sorry but i really hate it when people use them as 'meat shields&#39

If the Kroot were part of a counter assault force and had assaulted a unit in front of the Broadsides, well then they would be blocking LOS. I use Kroot for this purpose all the time. They buy me time to regroup the big guns or finally destroy that tank or raider.

Kroot aren't meat shields, per say, since they are capable of so much more….but often times they don't survive the full 6 turns…it nearly always comes down to a decision: Counter assault with the Kroot to buy time or lose my firebase/objective.

Losing a Kroot unit is a fair trade for an objective or a potentially game-turning extra turn for the firebase.

If the Kroot were not in an assault…then they wouldn't be shielding anything. Leadership rolls are made as normal in 4th edition.

Yes, the only way I ever see Kroot used is to be a speed bump.
Personaly thats a bit of Tau fluff so nothing wrong with that
And you got no other units to do that, so why not use kroot?

No, they aren't.

They aren't even a good speedbump.

If theres something Ive learned about kroot over the time Ive used them, its that they're good, but as they dont have saves, they dont last long without cover, so dont use them as a shield, as them dying is the easiest way to lose victory points. You should use them to their fullest, which can either be shooting, or charging at your enemies. They are decent at both.
