WHat are the pirahna's stats? I've been waiting a long time for the tau to get something like this, and not knowing is killing me!

Or buy IA3: Taros campaign.
Think landspeeder with Fusion blaster or Burst cannon and a drone cradle. Most people's basic troopers can't penetrate the front armour, but you would still have to watch out in Tau vs Tau.

Is it just me that actually thinks the pirahna kinda sucks? after reading IA3 i wasn't that impressed by it, it just seemed like a weird attempt at giving tau a jetbike and not a very good one. ???

Well, its far from being an ultimate unit but there are some good points - mainly the fact that its not really competing for slots whilst bringing some AT weaponry to the table, or it can be quite a decent anti infantry unit with 5 shots a piece and a free drone squadron should the need arise.

How points effective it is we'll have to see, a squadron of 5 is going to weigh in at 300(ish) points and whilst 25 S5 shots sounds nice, its really only the same as a Firewarrior squad rapid firing. Though the Pirhanas have a potentially higher BS if targeting arrays are taken, drones are decent shots as it is though and provide 10 pinning shots, additionally being vehicles they can ignore target priority - but when your gun ony fires 18" or less this is not a serious issue.

I'd probably say the burst cannon version is better, assuming you're not up against a heavily mechanised force, seeing as its less of an issue if the unit shots back as the armour is enough to require heavy weapons to be used. Fast skimmer and large unit size is going to discourage people from using missiles and lascannons if there are better targets out there. Whether you can get 300 or so points worth of use out of them in this role is a little more dubious, with the points just being better spent on Stealths. Infact they seem to be treading on a lot of the roles of stealths with both being similarly armed recon type units. Can't remember how much an XV25 with two drones would cost though, I think its just a bit less than the Pirhana but could be an interesting comparison

The Tau don't really have anything fast so it can sort of fill the roles played by infiltrators and deep strikes in alpha level missions as well as general table quarter grabbing at the end of the game.

Just a couple of thoughts, not going to do stats until I have the codex

I think It could be tweaked a little, but it adds another viable choice besides pathfinders (THANK YOU GOD), and I've been dying for a tau "bike"

If you want a Tau bike, check out FW's Tetras http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/tetra.htm
Not tournament legal (though for RTT they are sometimes allowed I think) but good enough for club games, even the official campaign weekends at GW include them.

They have a definite use though, being fast and mobile markerlight platforms.

I think Piranhas might introduce some sort of "hit the rear" tactic. They are fast skimmers, so can move 24" ignoring terrain in between. If they get to the rear side of a tank, they can then (assuming you get a markerlight hit) fire seekers in the rear armor of the tank. If they survive, returnfire, they can then proceed to fire the tank with fusionblaster and/or pulse fire.

This might make a nasty tank hunter squad...
