I was present at a recent tourament (which shall remain nameless), where, in the first turn, combined markerlights and pulse rifle fire drove a squad of Necrons off the table in the first turn. Yikes!

Now, while this may be exceptional in the extreme, remember these words shas'la: Markerlights are your friends. Multiple markerlight hits will result in a CUMULITIVE modifier for both BS and leadership checks. Try this one on for size:

A squad of Pathfinders with 2 rail rifles and target lock(free) and six pulse carbines and markerlights. A squad of six Stealth suits,(one is a shas'vre armed with a marker light. All have the targeting array upgrade, +1 to BS. A squad of six Heavy Gun Drones armed with twin burst cannons. Work it out in this order.

The Pathfinders shoot at the intended taget, (doesn't matter who or what, squad size 10). Averages say 1 rail kill and 3 marker light hits. Place 3 marker tokens on the intended victim I mean unit. ??? You'll see why in a moment.

Remove 1 marker token to increase the BS of the Stealth team to 5! Note: Markerlights CANNOT be used to guide other markerlights, heavy sigh. > Since we are using burst cannons in this example, thats 15 burst cannon shots hitting on a 2. Now shoot the markerlight at the now very shot up victim. Because we can't use a markerlight to guide a markerlight it hits on a 3 (60% chance of rain). Assuming it hits (place a marker token) move to the Heavy Gun Drones.

Now before I type this out, I do recognize that Forgeworld is not sanctioned (yet) for tournament play. Give it time, the masses will win out.

Heavy Gun Drones have a BS of 2. Remove 1 markerlight token to increase their BS to 3. They will now hit on a 4+. (If you really feel the need to dust this unit but good, ORKS!, you can remove yet another token to increase their BS to 4 and they will hit on a 3+. However, the burst cannons are twin linked and a 4+ is good enough for our example.... or not.) We now have 18 STR 5 shots that are twin linked. After rolling for hits and rerolls the averages say 60-75% of those shots will hit your target.

Of course, after all that shooting, and of course the inevitable saves for those that have them, that squad of 10 has now suffered anywhere from 50-60% casualties. So now comes the inevitable leadership check. Assuming LD 8, -1 for 25%, -1 for under 50%, and for the cu de gras, remove the last 2 tokens for a -2 to leadership. They are now testing on a LD 4. The odds are against passing.

Repeat as needed. ;D

Bottom line gentlemen, use the Tau to their fullest potential. Combined attacks is the way to go.

markerlights make a unit bs 5 otherwise i'll say its a good strategy

Under the new codex the markerlights will confirm a +1 to bs up to bs5. the effectsa are cumulitive.

Until now, no one said Tau markerlights would be able to reduce LD for leadership checks. Just for pinning tests.
I also didn't hear of any modifiers for 25% casualties.
So You have 2 Markerlights left to use. That shows, how useless improved BS is, as far as Ghosts are concerned, as You can just use a Markerlight instead of paying 60 points extra for that stealth-team.
60 points would be a pathfinderteam without its devilfish...

Void, you are correct. markerlights only affect pinning. and lonely, i have seen the codex and held in my hot grubby paws >
