Default The new Tau

Hi all, I've been away for a couple of months, thought I'd check in.

Now, with the new list and stuff, which will soon be out for all of us, it's going to be really fun to play Tau. We've also seen some official sources confirming some unit stats, see the rumour section for further details.

What I'm wondering is how the new Tau army will perform. I think we'll be seeing more hybrid armies, bearing in mind the awesome new sniper drones and broadside equipment. I also think fully meched ones will benefit from fast and strong units, for example the vespids and the improved battlesuits. I'm really curious as to how the new 'dex will look like, although we know a lot already

so, how do you think your army will look like, and how will the tau in general change?

19 people read this thread and no reply of some sort?

The new tau will be more mobile I believe, but it is more of a fast hybrid with some fancy allies and weapons.

And that my friend, ids what I'm gonna do to my army.

I think they are about to be slaughtered...

"Wow! Look at all these cool new units!"

"Wow, look at all my old units..."

"These units rock!"

"Do you know how to use them?"

"Ummm..."

"I know my force inside out. You're fielding 70% new stuff. You're going to die."

*Tau lose.*

I'm 50/50 with Wargamer.

I don't really see an outright victory but, I also don't see an absolute slaughter either.

At first glance everything looks good on paper. I'm new to the Tau way and I played a few basic games first to get the feel of them. Needless to say I didn't win them all. But, as with anything new, there has to be a little trial and error.

Once you do learn how to utilize the high mobility and allies, it should mean an easier victory.

Hi Wargamer, long time, no seen, eh? I have to admit, I do agree with you, probably there'll be a lot of Tau players wanting to do all the new stuff and learning the hard way how to play. (if they indeed learn to play at all). But I think this is very positive, because it proves that it's still hard (if possible at all) to powergame Tau.

I think the new markerlight system is the most promising. Adding that skyray might be an interesting option as it is now. I've heard it has networked markerlights, and a target lock, and even when it has fired away all it's missiles, it'll be one hell of a thorn guiding weapons all over the place.

Another fancy thing are the new sniper drones. Getting 3 of them with rail rifles, camo field and all that stuff, for like 80pts! Man, that's awesome!

Oh, the new shiny stuff. Can't wait to get my hands on the new dex.

well, I'm sure I'm not the only one looking forward to march now

OK, first off Wargammer, most of the Tau players who populate this forum are not noobs and *CAN* think. They are not just going to buy toys just for the sake of having toys. Some of the new gear will be tested and then thrown out as junk.

I'm a noov who can think. I'll just experiment with the new gear and if it doesn't fancy me, I'll keep that for future times where I will need them instead of throwing them as junk.

And at which point did I claim most of the Tau players here were noobs?

The question was asked how the Tau in general will change, and I replied: Tau are going to get their backsides handed to them universally. Magpies have not the brains to learn how to use an army, they only want the shiny bits.

"Wow, look at these new units I brought."

"Wow, look at my old units."

"Right, here's to a good fight."

"Do you know how to use them?"

"Not really, but we'll see how it goes."

"I know my force inside out. You're fielding 70% new stuff. You're going to die."

"So? I have to find out how it works, don't I?"

"Good point..."

*Good game ensues, Tau lose.*

The next game, the Tau player adjusts his list a bit, but doesn't do much better. A few games later, he figures out how to use the new units properly.

*Dude speaking in italics loses*
