the 501st winter combat cadrewas deployed on the ice world paragis 4 to eliminATE An imperial research lab that had managed to obtain pulse rifles and other tau weapons through rogue traders and was planning to anylise and copy these weapons. obviously the etherals got jacked off and sent in the 501st winter combat cadre.

Ah, catchy theme huh? But that's it? Make a little more stuff about your tau army. Let see....let's say the 501st winter combat cadre is from an Ice based world at the fringe of the Tau empire. That way you will solve the problems regarding the auxiliaries and also able to have free reign over your army theme.

Say that they are usually the 1st cadre to be send if there is a battle for 'ice worlds'. And more stuff about the commander and stuff, as the commander usually represents you in the army.

Yep, that's right. I make the fluff that he is a Tau-adopted human that leads the cadre from my sept to battle. And the warrriors are extra hardy as they are from a volcanic world, just like the Salamander chapter's world of Nocturne.

You can always create something that will fancy you.

the 501st winter combat cadre ,is one of the few tau cadres that adapt to a cold enviroment.they are situated in the northeastern fringe on the ice world of paragis four.originaly trained trained for desert combat ,theyre fleet got stranded on an ice world for several months while undergoing an operation against an imperial research station,and they adapted to the conditions by building underground housing utilising the expertise of the few earthcaste onboared there small vesle to survive.when they were found,they were well adapted to cool climate and were renamed as the 501st winter combat cadre.they were also harbouring a large number of fully armed human soldiers,dressed in the cadre uniform brandishing a tau variant of theyre armour.this has stuck ad the 501st holds human and vespid in high esteem as unlike the kroot they fight willingly for the greater good and dont eat theyre enemy.

One problem (by that I mean one problem i'm going to note). Tau Kroot don't fight for pay, that's Kroot Mercenaries and they don't fight with Tau.

If you don't use Kroot and you want to note that in your fluff then perhaps you could go down the route that Kroot have problems with the climate, seeming as Kroot are useful in forests.

The Kroot could probably evolve, but I'm just spouting out some random reason why Kroot may not appear, as it appeared with your comments that you aren't a fan of Kroot.
