Default Drones vs Pathfinder Railers

Ok...with the new Rail rifle Drone squads coming up, I' wondering if Pathfinders with rail rifles are going to maybe be obsolete, or even undesireable?

Pathfinders require a Devilfish...Drones don't.

The controller for the drones will no doubt be far afield and less subject to morale checks, damage etc. Pathfinders won't.

You can field multiple squads of drones...and still have a use for them. Fielding more than one squad of Pathfinders (with devilfish)...are they really worth it?

What say you all?

Well, I'm thinking that the biggest argument for Pathfinder Railrifle units is that Sniper Drones are to be a Heavy Support choice, which is already heavily contested by the excellent Hammerhead and Broadside choices. And I rarely take any Fast Attack choices. It's only recently that I finally decided to try a Pathfinder unit.

As a heavy choice, the main debate will be wether a "sniper" squad replaces the rialgun armed broadisdes or versatile hammerhead....?

Hmmm...true enough, but one doesn't always choose a unit based on the slot it occupies, but more often as to what role on the battlefield it fulfills...if the Drones and Pathfinders end up doing double duty, it might be a waste, no?

It might depend upon what army your versing, as I cant see drones doing very well agsint space marines, against tyranids or orks however, they should be a little better.

Meh, will need to see the stats for the sniper drones. Str 7 I *Might* consider them as a cheap replacement, but most likely I will stick with two railheads and a broadside duo for my heavy support. I like to combine a minor static element with a large mobile element. That and I am big on stealth teams, so will see how the new stealth suits measure up:P

I suppose it depends on how expensive the drones are going to be, and how many drones to a squad.
If you could get 6 railrifle bearing drones on the flanks or in the rear of the enemy then they'd be ace for taking potshots at medium infantry. Even better if they're cheaper than Pathfinders.

I assume that the Drone will have special rules that differentiate them from pathfinders, and the pathfinders themselves are also supposedly becoming more useful. We will have to see.

I'm interested in reading the rules, as drones are probs going to loose their deep strike ability with a controller....we'll have t see I geuss.

I'm kinda leaning twards pathfinders... I like marker lights a lot though so they wouldn't have railrifles.
