Isnt that just the way it is? your Infiltrated Kroot and Stealth take out half the opposing army, and the crisis and other Heavy Support take out the rest, Leaving your Firewarriors to getting just a good work out of charging up the feild? I have learned from experience with playing with the Tau that you want a BIG table, not a short little 48 X 48 desk, if you know what i mean. And well, i can never seem to get my Firewarriors up into battle before the other army is, well next to destroyed. Am i doing something wrong or what? I dont see the need to put a group of FW's in a Devil Fish just to get the destroyed before anyone else can do any good. Is there something i can do to make the Obligatory 2 troops worth their points?

My troops always serve me well. The Devilfish is an excelent transport and I find I can get my troops up in the enemies face very quickly. In fact my army is mostly comprised of mechanized troops and battle tanks leaving suits in a support role. My troops skim into position to hit key targets while my battle tanks soften up the enemy followed by support fire by the suits and my Shas'O taking down pre designated targets. If your troops arent making it to the battle then either A) mount them so they have speed or B) leave them static and use the rest of your army to lure the enemy into a kill zone.

If you have trouble keeping your devilfish alive your not using it right. Keep them hidden as best as possible at the start of the game and then get them moving. Once traveling at full speed skimmer moving fast is an excelent protection and with decoy launchers you have a very nice transport. Plus you can use hammerheads to draw fire from your troops.

well a tactic i found that i liked, but didnt like the point cost, was the Fish of Fury, or something to that effect, where you make a V shape with the Devilfishes and put the groups of FW in the middle, but they die to quickly cause i play against Necrons and Orks, and they have a tendancy of getting Massive ammounts of movement not effected by terrain, thus the skimmer cover is lost. and on top of that the Firewarriors arent exactly good when you just spent 160 points on a mobile wall that only protects you from 2 or 3 turns of Long Range death.

I dont know how lack of terrain slowing your opponents removes the skimmers cover... an explanation as to what you mean by that would help.

okay sure, um the necron wraiths for instance, can move Through cover and 12" no less, so then in their assault a good 3 or 6 wraith can take out anything in one turn.
And the orks something about their trukks and bikes, that give them the ability to move like what 18" and still make almost 90 degree turns, so if there in the right spot they can get to your back side easily

it seems you use them too early, fire warriors are an excellent sqaud to finish off the enemy with. in addition, especially verse crons, you need to make sure to kill off the wraiths fast - kill the whole unit.

Fof has its flaws, and its key boon is the movement it grants. You have to use it at the right time.

- i'd say let assault start to come to you, wittle them down with your Kroot and your stealths. use the fire warrior's 30 inch range to pick off some extra close goons.
-once they get up a bit, move the fw's in the devilfish (this takes 2 turns - loading them into the df and then moving them up, if you had them out already) and hit the enemy squad with full force rapid fire (and maybe four gun drone shots and 2 burstcannons)

so you switch it to "let them come"

or move the fire warriors in the devilfish with the rest of your force, using the kroot as a fire wall, so they really do get up closer.

Hold on... why are you complaining?????????

You're winning, so who cares your Fire Warriors place in a cross country meet while you do it?

Lesson to learn....only take a 6 man firewarrior team, and a huge load of Kroot and put even more hurt on them.

I disagree. My Firewarriors always survive much longer and end up dishing out tons of damage compared to my kroot. Kroot are good but only in certain situations while i find that firewarriors, as they are supposed to be, are a solid choice in just about any situation you can put them in.
