Default Tau vs. Tyranids

Saw a Tau poster at my local hobby store this weekend which showcased some of the new stuff we'll be getting. Of particular interest to me was the Shadowsun bit. It said that commander Shadowsun had launched a series of devastating strikes against Tyranid command-and-control organisms. These strikes so de-stabilised the Tyranid command structure that an entire splinter fleet was destroyed without the loss of a single Tau vessel.

This made me remember some of the threads dealing with the "Tau vs. Tyranids" topic, where many were quick to point out that the Tau would only defeat the splinter fleets at tremendous cost to the empire. Doesn't look like that now, does it?

Really?
I just went to a games workshop store and it barely had a hint on anything tau related. (every army is pushed into a little corner by the hundreds of different space marine models...)
Anyways... If she single handedly destroyed a splinter fleet. Why wouldn't she be a famous figure in the tau race? Thats good propaganda!

She didn't. She launched surgical strikes against key Tyranid command-and-control organisms. Then a Tau fleet engaged and destroyed the splinter fleet.

This is a fluke. The Tyranids will observe Shadowsun's tactics, and prepare against it for next time. The Tyranids are a threat to everyone. No - one can take on a full - fleged Hive Fleet without suffering some major hurt. The entire First Company of the Ultramarines was killed by a Hive Fleet. The entire company of terminators and verterans in a world where Space Marines are fluff- gods. Ouch.

Faolin, no-one is disputing that facing a full hive-fleet is costly. What I am talking about are discussions concerning Tau's fate against Tyranid Splinter Fleets. Many were of the opinion that the Tau could best them, but barely.

The entire Empire struggling to best a splinter fleet? Who said that! They're not that big. The Tau do need to work on defense abit though. Alot of the planets on their borders have no real means of fighting anything large. The Damocles Crusade smashed aside several Tau worlds before it finally stalled on a big one. The Tau need to dig in just that bit more.

This seems to be the most relevant topic (although please don't bring it back from its shallow grave).

This would fit in with the normal pattern of a codex showcasing a lot of positive fluff for one army at the expense of the others. Bet the Tyranids wish they had given the Tau a mention in their own codex now, huh? It sound like the Tau are doing the exact same things that the Imperium did against Kraken, and doing a good job of it. They will need to figure out something else against Leviathan's more distributed control network if it swings around at them, but they have exceeded expectations for the time being.

The Damocles Gulf crusade occured more than 200 years before current-era. I am sure the Tau have stepped up defenses a little in that time. Sometimes we get confused on time scales because the Imperium takes longer to do things.

But just imagine what the future for the Nids might be once they intergrate Tau DNA? Special shoot sup-spiecies?

We had a discussion about this a while back. The Tyranids probably couldn't gain very much from absorbing Tau DNA. The Tau themselves are so powerful only because of their technology (which the Tyranids can't use) and their dedication to a common goal (which the Tyranids already have ) The Tyranids would be stronger for having fought the Tau, but probably only because they would have a better idea of how to deal with high-strength ranged weaponry. I doubt they could absorb much directly.

just a small piont she got a stealth suit and she tau

they cant see her or hear her because of the stealth suit and because shes tau they cant see her in the warp

they arent going to be observing any thing she does only examing the damage she left behind

there are rumours of new space ships which probley explains the win. but tau ships all ready have the advantage that they can still travel during a tryanid attack where as other ship are lossed to the warp

trynids are going to have to evolue again if they dont want [to be beaten] by tau
