Jump-Shoot-Jump is essential for your suits, and a sure way to tick off marine players. Fire Warriors should either be Devilfish mobile, or parked in cover.

without wading through the flood of info, the simplist way to use JSJ is to use cover and jump over it on the movement phase and jump back in your assault phase.

Some stuff I wrote that's specific to Kroot and Drones:

Drones - Truths and Tactica - http://forums.tauonline.org/index.ph...3786#msg243786
Detached Vehicle Drones - http://forums.tauonline.org/index.ph...3875#msg243875
Kroot - Truths and Tactica - http://forums.tauonline.org/index.ph...3871#msg243871

Aside from that, check the 'flood' of topics above.

you know- other armies have gotten used to Tau, so its good to hit them from an angle they would never associate with you- the way i do this is moving forward, it throws them off completly. in some cases even move forward and after shooting the hell out of, say, a space marine unit so its down to three- charge them- obviosly if the rest of the battle is ok- it breaks their equilibrium.

This thread talks about a 4th edition rule-legal tactic Tau can use to break off from Close Combat, for another round of rapid fire fun... I believe it counts as a good Tau Tactic that everyone should be aware of, although its taken some heat lately:

Charge with 2 shas'os posising sheild gens and drones.
Also battle suits can rapid fire than shoot so give them plasma and fusion to inflict 2-3 wounds and then 5 stg-5-wepon skill-3 hits. Very good aganist gaurd and orks just make sure to charge.

Yes it's crazy unless your charging high points enamys.

Fluff wise it should never happen.

Nobody will expect them doing that so you'll be doing pretty good after there thrown off there feet.

Just charge, the tau are good at it when they charge.

It is not crazy. Charging with firewarrios is crazy (the shots from the pulse rifles are so much better than your close combat). Shas'O commanders are great for charging. Now, if only O'Shovah didn't limit my army so much...

What!? Tha Tau dislike close combat, but that doesn't mean they will avoid it at all costs. When given the option, they will generally choose to shoot. Their dislike of close combat is mainly represented by their poor close combat stats. They will fight in close combat if it's to their advantage for doing so. Which is why the shas'ui have an extra attack, and why the shas'o are so awesome at close combat. Then there's Aun'Shi, who fluffwise would make no sense under the concept of 'Tau refuse all close combat.'

Fluffwise, the Tau dislike combat (this is my opinion) because it puts Tau lives at risk. You can shoot someone from far enough away that they can't shoot back. Close combat puts you right in front of the enemy, allowing them to strike back at you. Also, you first have to get into close combat, which means getting hurt along the way. The Tau value the lives of their soldiers, and thus find close combat wasteful so they avoid it.

I think it's best to charge with crisis suits on weakened units. It's a very effective way of mopping up. On the other hand, charging with sealth suits is silly. So many armies will attack before you it's not funny. It's better to let them come to you and let the spiffy stealth-field give you first swipes.

Learn to shorten your reach! If your foe can come close enough to negate your striking power, all stratagem is lost, and when all stratagem is lost, the battle is lost.

Tell me now, is there a man among you here, is there no one who will stand up and try to fight? Tell me man, is there not one in all your ranks, is there no one who values courage over life?
