Can anyone attach images of fantastic Tau armies and or some info on what to collect? To help boost my friend Formosus confidence in 40k? Cheers for droppin' in.

do you want things to start off with in a basic patrol force? Or do you want a whole 1500 pts list?

Have a search through the Showcase forum. There are a number of really nice Tau armies and models posted there. It is sometimes a bit of a morale buster, though, especially if they are too nice.

Start off with an HQ, (shaso or shasel), give them a decent set-up for who you'll be fighting. There are several topics, one I think is in the important section about the names of setups, and whats best for what enemies. Contact a mod if you cant find it. Then go for a basic squad of firewarriors, (12), and give them pulse rifles. Most enemies these days are fearless, or the chances of them being pinned is very low, so carbines have no point. If you plan on kroot, then a good 16 will do, at 112 points they are good, just make sure they're behind cover alot, as they get +1 cover saves. Even with a good commander, you still have enough points to fit in a small devilfish, and thats about 500 points. Perfect for small patrol games.
Hope that helps.

Cool. I beat him too often with the Ultima guard space marines (my custom chapter) so I knew plenty of cool people could help us have a fun game some day.

You could try switching armies for a battle or two, just to play around. It might help him learn more about each of your armies, and he might pick up a few things. The more you know about you and your opponent, the better off you are. Marines can be a tough nut to crack, since they don't really have a weakness, they are solid all around. If it's his Tau centric morale your concerned about, try throwing out a compliment (genuine I hope) or mention your worries about his units out loud (e.g. "Man, that railgun enema was unpleasant!", or "Friggin strength 5 30" range!"). That might help bolster his faith a bit.

I would avoid Kroot, especially against marines. They're minimially more efficient (.11 more kills at 120 points) at shooting marines than firewarriors, but they don't have the same range as FWs. More range generally means you get to shoot first, and sometimes, twice before the marines cause a single casualty. Not to mention you have to leave them in cover to give them a chance of surviving.

If you're talking small force, a squad of stealths can be really great against footslogging troops with their Jump shoot Jump ability. Crisis are also be pretty good and pack a punch against marines for the same reason. They don't have to be expensive, but encourage him to experiment and see what works.
