Default Kroot Units in Tau 2.0

I looked and didn't see this posted yet. So..
Assuming the information is correct, that Kroot squads of 10 or more can attach Kroot hounds and Krootox into their squads.

I know that a big down point to the Krootox and The Hounds were that they "wasted" a slot that could be used for the more popular Hammerhead, or Gun Drones, etc
Now that it's taken away, how do you feel running a squad with Hounds and/or Krootox would fair? Do you plan on using them more? Do you think they would be points well spent? Maybe just for fun / something different?

What say you, Tau'vas?

Kroot Ox - Perhaps. It is an additional Strength 7 gun in the army, although undependable. Also, it takes away infiltration from the Kroot... not something I think is a good idea. If you already have a few infiltrators (stealth suits) then it is worthwhile. If not, then I would avoid them.

Kroot Hounds - This would make them better at HTH (init 4). You could have them attack silmultaneously with the Marines, but take them off as casualties, thus ensuring more attacks in HTH for the first few rounds. However it does limit your shooting, and 20 bolt guns can do some damage as opposed to 10/10 of kroot/hounds.

Krootox nerf infiltration and are weaker defensively than regular kroot. I would take plenty of hounds, however, you said kroot squads of 10 or more? does that mean that kroot can number LESS than 10 now? And what of MAXIMUM squad size? I hope it's still 20. Otherwise, kroot are rather nerfed for me. :P

Well, I dont know if its for definate, however...

I probably still wouldnt take much of them. For only 1I higher with a kroot hound, I'd rather pay the extra point for a Kroot carnivore with a rifle, all the extra shots count!

The krootox, well, strength 7 gun us handy, however I'm a fan of missile pods and such so not too lacking of those, and with only a 3T for insta kill....im weary of this unit, shall have to see it's points value.

Welcome to the forums!

I am a lot more likely to take at least Krootox now, and possibly Kroot Hounds if I run out of things to add (paint). The cost of the models and the loss of FOC slots were my principal complaints with both. I think switching them over to upgrades was an excellent move by GW.

gawd now i can bear to put together my
krootox that my friend got me

(he was gona get me stelths but the manager
had to "convince him the krootox was better")

Just because im 13 doesnt mean i dont know what to buy or how to play/paint

I have always thought that Kroot Hounds were worth it, but thats just me. Krootox arent worth it now and they still wont be unless the Kroot Gun changes to an assault weapon. Not only do the kroot lose the ability to infiltrate, but they cant move if you want to hit anything moderately far away? and they cost rediculous numbers of points now, but should be getting a cost reduction

well in defencive scenarios like bunker assult or any thing where the tau
are defencive the krootox could make the kroot squad
an effective fire squad in cover (note this is a speculation i havn't tried it)

Krootox are actually pretty good if you plan on using your kroot as a meat shield. Dont need infiltration for that. Otherwise, krootox are a waste. Im gonna buy some though and try em out, how are they by the way?
