Default Aun'Shi - A parting glance

Rumor has it Aun Shi will fail to make it into the new Tau codex... replaced by a man so decrepit he needs a hovercraft. I'm not familiar with the rules, but I think this means we can't use him anymore.

So, why would anyone use Aun'Shi? It appears you pay 55 points for a solid CC model... that you never want to get into CC! What a waste, right?

Wrong.

First of all, Aun'Shi has an extra wound, making him far more survivable. He also has a friggin' save, invulnerable too. I would say Aun'Shi is far more suvivable... making him an excellent choice if you take an Ethereal.

He also brings an EMP grenade with him, in a pinch taking out a Land Raider.

Finally, his honour blade gives him +2 Strength, and he has Rending too, and enough attacks to fight off a pesky Assasin. Lets face it, if my opponent is going to have something Deepstrike right next to my Ethereal, I want that Ethereal to be Aun'Shi.

Agreed. I'm ordering aun'shi before darth maul, disco bishop and the space pope take over the shelf.

You forgot the weightlifter... who oddly reminds me of the exercise instructor from 1984.

Are there any precedents for special characters that have been somewhat forgotten? That is the real reason I made this thread.

If Aun'Shi is going away that does kind of stink. I have a necron opponent who has taken to turboing his destroyers and necron lord (w/destroyer body) into my lines, and I was planning on using Aun'Shi to tie his necron lord up in the next game (parrying his attacks down to 1/turn). I usually could take care of the destroyer escorts with concentrated fire, but that necron lord always survived and then would go to town on me. Even if Aun'Shi would eventually die at the hands of the necron lord I'd be tying up one of his best resources while I worked for a phase out on the rest of his army. Now it looks like I soon won't have a chance to try this tactic.

A bad thing about the space pope replacement is that he doesn't look like he'll fit inside a devilfish as easily (if at all) as the other ethereals.

*sigh* tis sad to see him go... He actually defeated Marneus Calgar for me once...

Although we'll have to see what Space Pope can do before we pass judgement. But just by looking at the model... it doesn't seem like its gonna be much.

That sucks, Aun'shi is a fantastic Special character and i'll be damned if same halo 2/pope rip off is takin his place.

wait...he beat marneus?! wow that's heroic! but it sucks that hes going away for ever :'(

I call it lucky. But it was darn funny. Same game I killed my friend's land raider first turn.

I'm sure you can still use him. Same way you can use Anghor Prok. Same way you can recreate the battle for Terra. He's just not really official anymore.
