Default Tau's tech. origins?

Well... That sums it up... Can anyone help me figure out where the Tau got their advancement in technology so quickly? All that I know is the Tau advanced very quickly... Thank you in advance.

No one really knows... there's a lot of theories flying around... search the boards for topics like tau evolution (I don't have enough time to link them for you) They range from Old Ones helping them... to... who knows.

I think there's also some fluff about them finding an alien ship on one of their moons and reverse-engineering it.

But I generally chalk it up to them working together so well. For the greater good!

The codex says that the greater good can do anything, and something so shiny as the codex could never lie. So they probably did it themselves.

Ye gods... Why is it that every time one of theses topics goes up, it ends up getting 50+ replies? Mark my words, this will not be off the front page for months.

As for the tech, I would say its just the whole greater good thing.

'The Greater Good'. They're all working together, not against each other, so there really isn't anything stopping their technological advancement. Look at us now, in a matter of a few hundred years, we've gone from light bulbs to supercomputers. Sooner or later we'll actually have portable, or at least, feasible railguns. And this is in a commercialized society where corporations are racing one another to develop something and get it out for their own benefit.. but then you look at military developers, and they are way ahead of everyone else - they get funding to do what they want, and in a way, it's for the greater good.. of the military.

Railguns in the near future...? Texas Tech already has one. For the next twenty years I'll stick to weapons like this:

I'd imagine they also trade for and capture some of their tech. This new tech could also provide inspiration to the scientists.

I think I read somewhere that the Tau sucked at long distance space travel so they did some trading with the squats or demiurg. Cant remember though. I think they got where they are today by working together and trading, or that whole Necron thing, but not really because they have nohing to do with the warp that was over T'au,or the warp at all.
