Default What type of Crisis suit to use vs. Black Templar?

Hi, i am going to be fighting 2 campaign battles v BT next week. I have a pre-made 4000pts campaign roster and need to make up 2 forces to fight in 2 seperate battles. I've got my lists almost complete but need to decide what crisis suits to take. I've got firestorms, helios and fireknives to choose from and need some help deciding. Any suggestions?

<{Firestorms}>
Crisis Leader Hard-Wired Target Lock, Missile Pod 72pts
Plasma Rifle, Multi-Tracker
2 Crisis Battlesuits Missile Pod, Burst Cannon, Multi-Tracker 118pts

<{Helios}>
Crisis Leader Hard-Wired Target Lock, Plasma Rifle 75pts
Fusion Blaster, Multi-Tracker

2 Crisis Battlesuits Plasma Rifle, Fusion Blaster, Multi-Tracker 126pts

<{Fire-Knives}>
Crisis Leader Hard-Wired Target Lock, Plasma Rifle 77pts
Missile Pod, Multi-Tracker

2 Crisis Battlesuits Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Multi-Tracker 130pts

Cheers,
Falconrider

I'd say the answer here is laughably obvious - Burstcannons and Missile Pods lack the AP to crack Marine armour, simple as that. Helios, but drop the team-leader and upgrades - 3 straight Helios suits are much more effective.

BA have scouts in there squads on the other hand

i would set it up so that i would fire the burst missle when there are more scouts than tatial. then useing helios when there are more tatial marines. thought i would just stick to fire knife best of both worlds and with out the range problem

I havent seen many scouts in black templar squads actually. I would use a squad of helios and a couple of fireknife. A Helios Shas'O leading a fighting team of 1 or 2 battlesuits in the helios configuration confront the templars with their low ap killing power and a pair or more of fireknifes add support at range. The missil pods crack apart the scouts while the helios close so that by the time they are in range it will just be tactical marines left.

sorry last time i wasnt thinking about BT.

what ever you do dont use Helios. why because each time you kill a space marine they take a test to see if they run towards you or a way from you. if they have a commander with LD10 most likey they going to run to wards you and they will be in CC range before you know what hit you.

stick to fire knife at range

The only way to get around this is to focus enough firepower in a single unit in order to obliterate or cripple it. Since BT will be taking a test whether they loose one marine or nine, it is even more important than normal not to split fire.

Don't just think about taking them as Elite choices. Try to incorperate a Shas'o or Shas'el in there to help with suport. One put in XV-89 armour (Forge World model: +25pts, 2+ Sv, 3 Hard Points, D6" assult move) and pick up a Flamer, a Fusion Blaster, a Shield Generator, HW Multi-tracker, HW Targetlock, and a HW Drone Controller (+ Choice of Drones). Put the ranged fire on his Bodyguards and you should be relitivly safe from being charged, letting the Flamer and Fusion Blaster take care of them once their close enough. The Shas'o May not see much action, but once he does, he sure can dish it out!

Interesting setup. I always keep my Helios Shas'O around as even in my last 750 point battle against templars I saw a full terminator command squad and terminator castelan. Fireknife is deffinetly the way to go. Stay at range but always be ready to give a final close range push to finish off a unit and move on to the next. Variants of fireknife would also be a good idea. If you have few suits invest the points in a twin linked plasma rifle, missil pod and hard wired multi tracker. You can do this by splitting them into single suit units and paying the 5 points to make them team leaders.

Splitting the Black Templars is a thing you should deffinetly try to do. Issolating units can mean a lot of difference when trying to setup fire lanes to whipe out specific threats. Otherwise one unit will soak up all the fire and the rest will get you.
