Oh, Lord, Mech.

With not terrain slowing your opponent down, you need to be able to move your forces quickly and easily. Static, IMO, is best suited for IG tactics. Defend, buy time, etc. Mech is much more aggressive, and with little to nothing standing between you and your enemy, you must be aggressive.

Get some damn terrain! Sorry, but Tau need terrain to hide suits behind, and to conceal skimmers for the first turn. Take as few crisis suits as possible as they will die quick left in the open. Take as many hammerheads as you can. Stealths will still be okay. Kroot will die like...well kroot outside of cover. Static firewarriors will be okay, but you'll need to take quite a few because without cover they don't last a long time.

You can do static but it would not be adviseable. Put as much armor on the field as possible, no kroot. You can have a static firebase and broadsides just spread them out to minimize template damage your not getting any cover saves but 2, 3 and 4+ armor isnot bad at all. Just dont count on it too much.

Really though terrain is what mixes it up. Without it its just a straight up exchange of fire and that tends to get boring quickly. Even if you just put a few books down on the table, glases, coasters, a hat... could be anything as long as its SOMETHING.

4-6 buildings on each side, of what size? If thats not what you consider a lot of terrain then Im wondering what the dimensions are.

I see those as good Crisis suit hidy-holes.

Seriously, if you are the target, you can go all out. I don't normally reccomend this, but this is it:

Take as many Fire Warrior teams as you need.

Take one broadside for evey eight fire warriors.

That said...

Ethereal

50 points

72 12-man Fire Warrior teams

720 points

9 Broadsides (Just give each one a MultiTracker) = 675 points

Add it all up... 1445 points.

Holy ****!
