well, they do believe in souls- so maybe when they burn they believe that their souls return to their sept. im inclined to believe that this is every caste, but i do know that they also burn them on their homeworlds with large ceremonies. as for the aun, i've been starting to think that they're bones are put into temples in septs and worlds that were important to them. we know that temples are mean a great deal to the tau and they usually represent a world's "first landing" or first landing of an ethereal.

Aun'Shi was defending a Ethereal Temple in his background piece in the current Codex: Tau.

Oh I see.

That brings me to one point. Do the Tau organises masses for the dead? You know like, we see the dead person in the coffin while we are in the church?

I doubt a mass as such(since not all folks even here celebrate mass), but I'd highly expect 'wakes' to be commonplace, a celebration or commemoration to their service for the Greater Good and how they were as part of it(sortof like the Greater Good giving something back).

Seems plausible though, cremation seems the most 'efficient' and effective way to go about it.

Dumping air caste into space made NO SENSE at all.

I imagine your burned remains are stored somewhere... like maybe 2% of all soil is made of dead Tau, giving back to the greater good.
