Default Masters of Shooting

Hey guys, I started an 40k about a month ago and choose IG as my army. I've heard people say Tau are the most shooting oriented. now up until recently I believed the Imperial gaurd to be in the top place in terms of shooting, so I was just is what people say true and if it is what makes them better?

In terms of quality, tau are better than IG at shooting, they have better guns and more options. The imperial guard can't be beat for sheer volume of fire, however.

Tau are very good at shooting, although the IG have MORE firepower, tau have better, and more well laid out firepower.

A good way to think of it is like this, The tau are a well crafted 2000$ kitchen knife which can intricatley cut its way through poultry guided by the hand of an experianced Japanese chef. The Imperial Guard is a big ole' fellar in with a bloodied apron and a butchers knife hacking away at the aforementioned poultry. Both mange to cut it up, but one does it with an emphasis on finese and the other with an emphasis on sheer brutal power.

The Tau also have nothing to match the battle cannon, which I would trade a railgun for any day. Railgun submunitions don't come close enough - armor saves for marines. =/

When it comes down to raw fire-power the Tau do not match the Guard, or even many Space Marine armies for that matter. I can't imagine a Tau army ever beating an Iron Warriors force in a straight shoot out.

Tau are not meant to be a raw fire-power force. The Tau are all about mobile fire-power, application of fire-power.

I would say that Tau are more about Quality than Quantity. They have good basic weapons, on cheap basic infantry, and although they might not be as accurate as other armies, when they hit, they hit hard (railguns!).

In a sit-and-shoot battle, Tau would most likely get outshot, just by the sheer volume of fire. With mech/mobile Tau though, they have the ability to avoid incoming fire, and relocate and apply fire-power where they want, and where it is needed.

Agreed. The IG I think is more like a 'turtling' army while the Tau is 'hit and run/shoot and scoot'. But that is just me.

Tau have bigger, Tau have better, Tau are more focused on shooting, and you will not see any Tau army not about shooting.

The Railgun is the biggest gun in the game. Our pulse rifles are the best standard issue weapon in the game, our armor is Carapace, our points 10 each.

We will fight you on our terms and blast away.
