Default I can't decide (Crisis configuration question)

I can't decide what weapons to pick for my standard crisis suits. It's a toss up between tl misslepods and tl plasma rifles. One has strength and range, the other has ap. Most of the time I play against space marines and a few guard. I am already running a lone broadside and two railheads for tank busting, but I guess the pods could not hurt. Space marines can be tought cookies to crack tho.

My shas'o runs plasma rifle, missle pod, multi-tracker.

I'd perfer not to do one of each because... well twin linked is nice and I perfer shield generators on them. Has anyone had any success with multiple battlesuit configs in a squad?

I have tried both with tl fusion blasters and while it is very nice, the short range is just too risky vs space marines and a waste on guard(read: infantry)

Please enlight me ethereals

I would have one squad of Helios. The Plasma rifle, Fusion blaster, and multitracker make a full squad capable of wiping out a Tactical squad in a single turn.

Another squad of Deathrains would be nice.

Shield Generator option is:

Usually so bad, you should pretent it doesn't even exist.
Use cover, LoS, and mobility to wipe the board clean.

how is shield generator bad? I find that my suits are often targeted by high ap weaponry....

You are either playing on boards without enough cover or not hiding behind it well enough.

If your fighting space marines, then take a plasma, and fusion. Guard, Id go with plasma and burst cannon. Always have a plasma, it fields decent range, with good strength, and good AP. Guards, they have lots of numbers, explaining why to use the burst cannon, able to take down light armored troops, and has three shots. Use a multi tracker on guard to insure maximum shots, same with smace marines. When fighting guard, others might not advise this, but Id take a shield generator, as the burst allows no save from guard troops, and is quite easy to hit them, so they'll want to take that guy done, so give him a shield. Thats all I got.

AHHHHH!! NO NO NO NO DON'T GLUE THEM!!!!!

Never glue the weapons onto your suits. If you goto the conversion board, there is an important topic sticky about using RE magnets on your suits, so you can always change.

The power of Tau really comes from their mobility. *It's better than sheild generators. *Check out this link:

As stated previously, there are many ways to convert battlesuits so that you don't have to permanently glue on the weaponry.
Advantage: playtest as many configurations as possible before deciding.

My tip is versatility. With other words, the Fireknife.
Plasma, Missiles and multitracking.

And a great tip for everyone using suits,(or any other models with multiple choices of weaponry) go to the nearest
bookstore, and ask them for "sticky stuff to hang up posters with". It sticks weapons to your models as well as it keeps
your Tim Burton and Giger Lee posters to the wall. And for a big*ss pack of it is about 16NKR, 2-3Dollars,2Euros, 1 etc.
It is cheap.

Two great points.

My default configuration is also Fireknife. It is the most versatile. In bigger games I also like to have a small tankhunter squad (2 models) dedicated squad with fusion weapons. They help challenge those pesky hiding vehicles.

Usually I take Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, and Multi - tracker (What you guys call Fireknife)

But now I'm not sure. It seems to me the only thing Missile Pods are good for is taking out light vehicles. They seem to expensive to use on normal troops, with not enough AP to take out the heavy ones.

What do you guys think? (I'm hoping someone will prove me wrong)
