Default a new race

using Old Crow models over from the UK ive been thinking about starting a new race- however i can't rationalize why the tau would allow a race to have its own tanks and command structure seperate from shas'ar'tol. any biters?

You would have your own soldiers to defend your worlds - race within the Empire arn't servants of the Tau and on a day to day scale you probably wouldn't notice much difference, other than a few new (coloured) faces around the Starports, but considering that you probably joined for economic reasons you likely traded with them or their allies already.

They probably work in a quite similar way to the IG, because most planets are Tau settled, their armies are the ones at the edge of the empire (well, all over seeing as they have a very large proportion of their population in the military even if the Shas are the smallest caste after the Aun). When the Tau engage in a military opperation they will call on local and specialised allied races to assist who would then send their own detachments who would generally opperate independantly of the Tau though likely under overall Tau command (own officers but subserviant to the supreme commander who has better ties to the logistics and Navy side of things).

Well the most obvious reason is that the race is not really a part of the empire at all. *The two best ways to do this would be to use them as mercenaries, much like the Kroot, or as an entirely seperate race with which the Tau are still in the processes of integrating. *Personally I would chose the first as I think mercenaries should be much more common in 40K and that 40K deserves Dogs of War far more than fantasy. *But if you went the second race you could say the Tau have a treaty with this new race, however the race really isn't a part of the Empire and thus is not awarded Tau tech. *This could work vice versa as well, the new race does not give the Tau it's tech but uses it alongside theirs.

i want to move away from a merc race and think something along the lines of IG aux- say, three worlds in a localised network- does it still work?

It looks human to me, are we talking the remnants of the PDF signed up as Gue'vesa using local models of tank? Or a completely alien race that also uses tracks?

Just go with the second thing I said, they are working out treaties with the Tau empire right now so have not fully converted themselves over to Tau tech. *hey could supply minerals and resources while the Tau provide a few firewarrios, a tank or two, and some battlesuits to fight alongside this new races own army.

EDIT: Thanks for the find by the way, I like the looks of these models(the looks of the price mostly). Could be quite fun to use them for something.

i was thinking initially about remnent PDF, but now i want to create an entirely new race, something along the lines of where we are right now. I don't have any idea what the race would be however, ever see Deep Space Nine- the cardassians?

could piece them together with Eldar bodies and putty.
using primarily beam weapons- that hasn't been covered by 40k yet.

ps: old crow models are amazing- there a little smallish thats all
pps: i don't know if its appropriate to be trying to come up with a new aux race here is it? dont want to get in trouble.
