Default XV8's are obsolete now

Well I for one am annoyed how they changed the tau so quickly, shouldn't they have made a new Orks codex first? Not that I like Orks or anything.
There seems to be no point writing up and planning a new Tau army now. Not until April or whenever the codex comes out. So to all those wanting information on starting now, just buy some fire warriors and figure out which colour scheme you like and sit tight.
And all those with plain XV8's and XV15's, aren't you annoyed that they have made new stealths and will probably make the Forgeworld models common place too?, with better stats!

Positive note, at least they introduce new things like the beautiful vespidae and tetra's with no guns...

Tau have been around for a few years now.. this has been mentioned numerous times, as to why they chose to update Tau first before other codexes. It was basically because this was an easy update, that wouldn't require as many resources or time to update etc, compared to Orks or Eldar, which I believe they started work on a while ago, and it'll still be at least a year before they're finished (apparently they're working on numerous codexes at once, instead of one at a time).

A quarter of a year until the new codex is plenty of time to familiarize yourself with the current set of rules, and how the current units work on the battlefield etc. After that, the new codex is just a matter of updating tactics, trying out the new units and adding them to your base force.

Regarding XV8s and XV15s - at the moment there isn't any solid info that XV8s will be updated in any way. It was rumoured that they would get a ankle fix on the models, but that doesn't look like its going to happen. And so its most likely that they will remain the same. That said, it's XV8 commanders that will get an update. The majority of XV8s, e.g. normal crisis suits, should remain the same. With XV15s, I believe the current range of models will still be available, alongside the new XV25 models, as to not take away the choice or preference as to which models to use. The new stealths function exactly the same as the current ones, so I don't see them become obsolete either.

Tau have pretty much been the first race to date where GW have been working more closely with Forgeworld in terms of models. And thats probably a good thing, Forgeworld make awesome models, and if GW starts selling them in plastic kits in their own stores, their awesome models will be more accessible etc.

For the new units, it wouldnt be much of an update if they just tweak a few rules, and so they add in a new race (Tau Empires becoming a place for 'plug' races?) and some new units so that theres some shiny new stuff.

assuming the xv25 is the new stealth suit, all they did was make the stealth look cooler, wich wont make the crisis obsolete

Sorry, this post should be removed, I have 7 XV8's and seeing the awesome suits on forgeworlds makes me feel like I wasted money. :'(
At least I got a lot of use out of them though.

For the Greater Good I guess.

I don't think XV8's will be obsolete. I'd think of them as a more general and flexible suit, where as the others are more specific.

XV8's are likely to stay the same model wise. Rule wise, there will be some pts reductions, so nothing to really sob about. Sure FW suits are great, but considering the price for one, you really shouldent be worrying about how you wasted money on regular CS's.

I look at it this way its 6month collecting black Templar/new army. Also i believe there where some screen shots of crisis suits with new weapons like the ion rifle and some kinda frag launcher I'm not sure but there seems to be 2 new guns. The head is also changed to look more like the forge world and yes there will be ankles. Just look in the 40k rummer on the board. It has some nice snapshots and other stuff like that.

Called Special Issue Wargear I believe, available only to XV8 commanders. Check the content/posts of the threads (not just the pics :P) and I would suggest checking your spelling too..

And by the way, that picture of the xv8 - I think they put as many pieces of special issue wargear they could on one model.. unsure if it's rules legal, more for show I'd think.

(said thread: http://forums.tauonline.org/index.php?topic=13570.0) - I don't see any new ankles. The pics of purple Tau - I think the crisis suits there have converted legs, and the hammerheads were just DFs with turrets added.

Both models remain useable under the new rules. Whats the problem?

At least you don't own a load of Leman Russ Extreminators or 3 Griffens. My Space Marines have 3 Dreds with converted plasma cannon option... now that going annoyed me.
