Default Shooting Behind Skimmers

We all know and love (well, most of us at least) the FoF tactic, and it is considered by many enemy armies to be beardy. But they can shoot the FW. I just have a question about that. Since the Devilfish is in front of them, would the enemy have to make a Leadership test to shoot the FW, and is there a way to land the Devilfish (I heard they have Landing Gear) to make it count as an ordinary tank?

No. They can designate between targetting infantry and vehicles, so one does not cause a Ld test against the other.

I heard somewhere that all Tau skimmers have Landing Gear, so can I end my Devilfish movement phase landed to protect them against damage? And if so, can they shoot through friendly tanks at the enemy.

Actually, you can shoot the closest target, or closest large target (vehicle, tmc) without LD test. Every other option requires LD test.

For the landing gear, I think you can land a vehicle at the end of the movement phase, if it didn´t move. But then it will block your LOS for shooting, and will be hit automatically in CC (being basicly immobile target)

If the Devilfish lands at the end of the movmement phase, it no longer counts as a Skimmer, and you can't shoot beneath it.

So you can't move the Devilfish and land in the same turn? I confess that this is less a FoF question and more of a new tactic question.

No, you must do one or the other...

Basically, the FoF tatic is really there to make your Firewarriors safe from assualts; not shooting... :-\

I was trying to make a new tactic using a Devilfish as a shield to escort a unit to a place, such as for taking objectives or taking Helios suits up close. But I guess it wouldn't work.

You can make it with DF and Helios Shas´El/Shas´O though. I don´t know if it is useful, but...

And deepstrike is always a option.

Will the Tau be getting any land vehicles or walkers any time soon? Probably not, but are they?
