Default Is this a cliche?

in an army list of mine i have a gun drone squadron of 8 that I intended to have my commander join so that he would have 10 gun drones with him. I was wondering if that's a worthwhile tactic?

In a word; no.

Drones aren't tough enough to be a worthwhile bodyguard.

I've done it before, it's fun. Just make sure your commander is hidden during the first turn because he counts as a unit for being shot at. It's a good way to draw attention to otherwise harmless drones.

Don't forget the targetlock too. Likewise, remember your commander can give a 9 or 10 leadership to drones.

Why bother formally joining the suit to the drones? Just keep him a seperate unit in the middle or behind them. I do this quite frequently. It actually provides him with more protection, without the added cost of a target lock or the risk of the drones failing a leadership test and dragging him off the board with them.

its so cliche! it even on the warhammer website tau tatical

meh 40k tatics are like sex. every thing has been thought of, making most "new" things a just a repeated idea, any thing else called "new" is either stupid, dangerous or illegail and most likley combination of all 3.
