Default I'm now officially bored with Tau

Well, I am now firmly convinced Tau cannot be defeated except by mistakes, bad dice, and/or poor preparation.* I am therefore moving on to other armies.

Basically, I find the Tau too limited in breadth of forces, and too restricted by what actually works.* New suits and such from the new codex isn't going to do much to save the situation.* What works, works well, but there is no challenge to running mech or hybrid Tau; what doesn't work isn't going to work.

I just find no lattitude with Tau.* Is anyone else feeling this effect?

Wouldn´t the true challenge be finding "what doesn´t work" and making it work?

Interresting. I'd sure like to see Tau win a larger tournament such as GT, after all, they are invincible, roeght? :

That's quite the bold statement! I'm sure that every army out there can say the same thing! ^-^

As for myself, I am also kind of tired with my Tau, which is why I am starting Dark Eldar...but the love for Tau and challenge of playing them is still there! I still say that Tau are one of the tougher armies to use, because their Troop choices are lacking when compared to other armies...(SMurfs, Orks, etc.)

It is quite common to see players "switch sides" every once in a while, such as what I am doing, and probably WANAX is doing...It's not that one is "bored" with Tau, the player has just advanced up to a level in which more of a challenge is required!

I never win with Tau... but I always win against them! ;D

Try playing my way for a change... you are not allowed any tank-mounted Railguns, and NO plasma weapons (except tank-mounted). No allies either.

This is probably the case Aunny. *Perhaps the major issue I run into is that I'm now, after 6 months of playing, on top of the local food chain. *Tau dominate all but drop podding SM.

I like your DE idea, *go for the hard win. *I considered them as well after reading the excellent WD article a couple of months back. *But I've decided to go with an even harder task, a small tricked out IG army. *

Yes, being the top of the heat isn't as fun as it is made out to be...winning all the time really makes a player sigh in grief...where's the challenge?

Perfect! Perhaps this will provide the challenge that you desire...but while you play your IG you will find yourself that you go back to your Tau everyonce in a while...for "old times' sake"... (I do it periodically!)

I have probably gone as high as is really possible at my local hobby shop, I can even force the best veterans to a tie regularly, there is little else to do. It makes me want to start a new army, Space Marines in fact but I cannot do that atm. So instead I am looking around for other places to go and searching out new and more difficult opponents.

Your feelings are understandable though, no matter how tricky the Tau are to use there is a point where things get too easy. At that time I find you can either step up and find better enemies or have a change of allegiences.

Interestingly enough, I've found winning with my Tau to be pretty routine with my local group, too, and I've started up an IG army as well, although it's a fairly regular doctrines army converted/painted up as a tau auxilliary force. *

I did find that it didn't go quite as smoothly when I went to a tournament a couple weeks ago. *I was certainly competitive, and had a shot at first, but the quality of players (and lists) in the final rounds made for a much more difficult game. *Certainly not what I was expecting after dominating my local scene.

I guess that's what I'd recommend, aside from trying a new army; go to the occasional, more distant tournament. *Playing styles very quite a bit from location to location, and you might learn a little somthing new.

I wouldn't advise trying less effective/gimped lists for a challenge. *Where's the point in that? *Plus, if I knew my opponent was using mediocre units to get a better challenge from me, I'd be upset. *Now neither one of us is learning anything, we're just rolling dice.

Like many things in life, sticking to one thing, repeatedly can cause you to lose your initial interest. That is why many races, play styles and formats exist for you to explore the game with, instead of being totally focused on a single aspect of it, with a single method of playing it. Most people who have played Warhammer for a good amount of time, and some who are still learning the ropes, have multiple armies. And there's nothing wrong with not having your original excitement in an army anymore. That's the fun of starting a new one. However, a good idea, is to start something that is not very similar to your current army, and try things a little more differently. If you're looking for a challenge, look into armies that are less played, less overly known. The best thing of all I can tell you though probably, is to choose something that has a lot of possibility for change, expansion, varying tactical approaches and many, many ways to field it. For example, you'll probably want something with lots of modeling potential, lots of chance to play every bit of each phase as you wish (meaning, they can do combat, shooting, move quickly or slow, etc, if you wish) and also allow good customization, such as chapters or army types.

Unfortunately for the moment; the Tau lack much of that. We obviously cannot attempt a challenging close combat army or even a hybrid shooting-assault army really, as we're simply that poor in combat. We also cannot really change up our army's style too drastically because our unit choices and their options are quite limited as well. Fire Warriors & Kroot for example are the Troops. That's it.

This rigid, straight line, simple army, the Tau, is one of the things that initially attracted me to them. I have played Tau since their debut, and I still enjoy them, but I also play other armies, both similar and different, but my other army choices are ones that I can change up quickly and often, due to the loads of options available (in my case: Lost and the Damned, Witch Hunters, Daemonhunters).

So don't worry if you're bored with the Tau at the moment. Play something else for a little while. But keep your Tau near by. Better yet; if you have a friend who wants to try something new, let them play with your Tau. If they're unstoppable in your neck of the woods, it will be a good experience to have your own army whoop you while you learn a new one. Maybe you'll whoop them with a new army of your own. Who knows!

After you go a little crazy with a new army and all; you may find yourself thinking of the Tau again, when you hear people talking trash about them, or perhaps when a few new options are created in the future.

Cheers!
