Default Shas'ui?

just had a quick question... I was wondering what the benefit of getting a shas'ui for your fire warrior squads? does it make their leadership higher? I was just wondering....

It's pretty obvious if you read the unit entry - he has a Leadership boost and can take extra armoury gear, as well as a Markerlight if play a static squad.

Yes, the squad uses the Leadership of the highest member, just like any other sergeant equivilant in any simmilar army... just look in the rulebookif you own one, because if you already have a copy I would call this borderline spamming.

No problem, I was taught "bare bones" rules without the filler in between to confuse me... sorry if I came off as harsh.

The greater question is whether you want to take a Shas'Ui or not. Under the current rules, you're better off without one. Sure, he helps pass leadership tests for targeting distant units, but he hurts you when you want to fail a test and run away. Taking an ethereal is much better, since you get to reroll LD tests, passed and failed. Under the new codex, there could, I suppose, be wargear available to 'Uis that will justify taking them, or make it almost unheard of not to, but for the present, it is best not to take upgrades to firewarrior squads (with the possible exception of bonding, a hotly debated topic).

Now, having said that, I routinely violate this "rule" by taking a pair of drones with my static firewarrior squads. 14 models is harder to kill, and remains a scoring unit after 7 casualties. Also, 13 models is the threshhold for it to take 4 casulaties in a turn to cause a 25% check. On top of that, there is the miniscule chance that one of those twinlinked carbines could, once every 50 games or so, cause a pin test.

Keep in mind there are situations where you want to fail your leadership test...

I've always had difficulty in figuring why you can't just voluntarily fail a leadership test. If I were in command of a FW squad I'd want my troops to scatter and run - if it meant saving them from total destruction. Just don't give any orders at all and let nature take its course. Seems reasonable to me.

I myself dont see a great importance on taking a shas'ui. The only real purpose they serve is to change your targets and with a few good roll of the dice it can be done with the basic ld of the fw.
