... but how hard is it to put a holo field generator inside a crisis suit? Realistically, why wouldn't you?

I'd imagine it has something to do with powerplant requirements. Bear in mind Crisis suits have additional hardpoints that need a power feed.

[Edit: Speaking of which, does anybody have the fluff tech spec sheet on the Crisis suit? I know I've seen it. Been wondering what kind of power system it's carrying, and how big it is.]

Hiding a tau-sized object is one thing, hiding a massive, towering battlesuit is quite another. Crisis suits would require about twice as much power to cloak, and they just don't have that kind of power. In addition, stealths need only power a jetpack and the stealth field (the burst cannon only needs ammo) while crisis suits have BIGGER jetpacks, more weapons, and lots of systems.

The same thing happens with buildings; as they get bigger and bigger, they become less and less efficient in terms of space for stuff.

Exactly. Stealth camo is easier to build small, but almost impossible big. This is another piece of proof as to why Eldar are masters of tech; they can conceal a vessel the size of an Explorer.

Oh, and "Holofield" is an Eldar invention; Tau use Stealth Technology.

Actually, it's described as a "Holographic Disruption Field" in the codex.

Since we're talking about Tau tech, how do the shield generators work? Is it a "aura"-like full body protection field, or more of a projected shield a la Halo jackals? For that matter, how do shield drones work? Are they projecting a shield onto the controller, or tackling the rounds for their owner?

I believe the shield generator was made to look like a shield so it looks cool. I think it is too small to be a Jackal-like shield. It probably surrounds using a deflector shield-ish thing.

I see. How big are crisis suits, anyway?

Crisis suits are something like twice the height of a person. But I can't be entirely sure. It describes them in Kill Team.

A burst cannon also has to be powered. The ammo is nothing special really, it just has to be magnetic. All the pulse weapons work on the same technology - accelerating a tiny particle/ball of plasma to extreme speeds.

Silicone. Its estimated each "clip" has 300 - 200 shots. Ammo for BC isn't an issue...
