Default tau lifespan/reproduction

i was reading hear and there and this seems to be cropping up over and over. ok the official way the Tau do the nasty and the lifespan thing is-
about 40 years is old- so figuere multply that to think of it in human terms (80) any more then that and you have an elder ancient on your hands.
as to reproduction TAU ARE NOT BORN IN TUBES. in firewarrior they explain this. The tau have relationships that are sometimes inter caste- which is difficult but can happen. however children are created by a lot that the Earth caste monitors, mates being from the same caste, the best "stock" mates with the best "stock" and a child is created. This child is then given over to whatever caste its parents belonged to and begins training as 'sal. parents can choose to have contact with them- which seems to be fairly common.
ok then...

Personally, I find this concept quite flawed. If you imagine the logistical nightmare of shipping two Tau from opposite sides of the Empire so they can have sex, and the resources needed to do this, it quickly becomes impractical. I know Eldar seem to be suffering from a racial-equivalent of the clap, but the Tau as well?

you have to take into account how the Tau work- the Tau would not ship a male from one end to mate with a female on the other. tau government works on the local level responding to problems and change individually since they have no FTL comm's. this means that a selection such as that would take place on the lower level.
just think.

I just pity all the Gue'vesa left behind after the Crusade....there must be little to no womens for them, and I doubt any human in his right mind would find a Tau attractive. The whole 'hoof' thing throws me off, for starters. Yeesh, those poor bastards. :'(

But yeah, I'm pretty sure they reproduce through sexual reproduction, it would make sense because they're mammals. Do I want to think about Tau on Tau any more than that? No. No I do not. -end-

You must remember that when on a Crusade, it is not only tons of Guardsmen that may be left over. Females usually take the field duty as nurses, spies, hackers, or some other job to support the army. There would definitely be less female Gue'vesa than male, but there is more than just the one-in-a-thousand Guardswoman.

As for the Tau, let's just say that they reproduce just like humans except the maternity ward is much different from human ones. Let's leave it at that.

Don't forget the cooks, cleaners, armourers, smiths, entertainers, clerks, clerics, servants, prostitutes and general hangers-on that follow the Guard around...

Oh, Guard-groupies. Lol.....yeah I guess, I just wonder the ratio of men to women in the Tau Empire. I can only imagine a lot of long lonely nights.

Just for the fighting troops I would say that the Tau would have a pretty even ratio.

In all honesty, this topic is going in no particular direction and seems pointless...
