Default Female Shas

Since a new special character is a female Stealthsuit Shas'O, we know that there are feminine Tau. But as males are usually stronger, I'm sure that the majority of the Fire Warriors are males. Since the Fire Caste is suppose to protect the Tau race, what would the female Shas do?

Male and female Tau are equal in their society. However, breeding creates problems; when two Tau mate, the man is off duty for an hour, the female is off for several months.

Thus I would imagine females are removed from active duty once they've been impregnated, to ensure she is not killed whilst pregnant, and that the child can have a proper upbringing.

Male and Female Tau only look alike to human eyes. We are only good at spotting differences within species / peoples we are familiar with, which is why people from very different cultures all look alike until you get used to them.

All castes would see equal numbers of male and female in any particular job. However when mating/breeding whatever it is likely that the females are off duty for a while, particularly in the fire caste, then again we have no idea how long it takes a Tau child to develop in the womb or if any of our terms apply to them. They are amphibians unless Im much mistaken.

However due to the very similar physiques of the Tau its relatively safe to say that neither sex is stronger or any of that. There is however next to nothing in the fluff to tell us anything about this at all so...

I always wondered if Tau have live birth. Reproduction is not really talked about (except in a few novels which I haven't read) but, due to thier amphibian ancestry, I would just assume they lay eggs. That would be very beneficial to thier society (so it's only a few hours off for both partners) however I don't think it would be a number of eggs like most amphibians, just one, maybe two.

Where did you read that they're descended from amphibians?

They are more like mammals than amphibians. Amphibians are water-based creatures usually living near water (whether it be a pond or a swamp). Ta'u is an arid world, so I doubt they are amphibians.
