Default Vespid name

I'm not saying GW has to be original or anything, but a Vespid is a type of wasp... on Terra 2k...

I'm sure GW is asking the same thing I am...what the hell is terra2k? ???

Also, let's think about this for a moment...how many different universes have insectoid aliens? How many of those have the flying sort? Of those that have some flying bug-like aliens, how many of them are wasp-like? I guess I saw some sort of dragonfly in starship troopers, so that's one rare exception. Sorry, but "flying buglike alien" means "wasp, hornet, killer bee" to just about everyone.

Or is it the name "vespid" that has you all wound up? You think earth2k invented that name? I assure you, earth2k was not the first to have a waspy alien, and not the first to call a wasp-looking creature "vespid"

... Because 'Vespid' is latin for wasp (derived from vespidae, vespa)?

Terra2k = Current/Modern Day Earth/Now?

Indeed, the name vespid is taken/derived from current day language.

The reason being.. if GW called them koala's, and they turned out to not be anything like koala's.. everyone would be like 'wth?'
So they called them vespids. Given that all we knew was the name a few months ago, we deduced that they were some wasp like creature.. and thats what they turned out to be.. I think the name fits, it doesn't really resemble anything in the English language, but still has roots to wasps..

Yes, vespids is the name of the race overall, stingwings is the name of the unit that's up on sneak peaks. But the word 'stingwings' itself doesn't mean much..

None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperor's foes."
