Default Keeping your suits out of Close Combat (Or When you really mess up)

An idea I have been throwing around is: When a Crisis Suit is charged by the enemy, it may immediatly trigger it's jet pack to move 6" away from the chargers. If this takes it off the board or into difficult terrain then follw the standard rules. If the enemy still catch it, then fight the assault normally, otherwise they fail their charge (see main book). I don't think this is too overpowered, as some units (Assault marines, Hormagaunts) will still be able to catch them. I just feel that it may be a way for suits to have a bit more survivability to CC, without following the newbies and giving them power fist/weapon/lightning claws.

What d'yall think?

Too useful.

A better way to keep them out of combat is to keep them away from the enemy. Simple, but effective.

Considering that they are quite mobile already I think that this is a bad idea. I agree with Andromidius.

I don't know about that, guys...those crazy assault marines move 12 inches and assault 6 more....It's happened to me before - and then I had to kill them all >

Yeah, my crisis suits are among the first things to die when there are fast things around. Not much you can do about it. Of course, stealths die even before them...

I would consider making it a d6-inches or even a d3-inches move rather than a full 6" move (and also make it a hardpoint option).* Essentially, a 6" ability would mean that Crisis Suits would never have to fight in an assault with regular troops, and would add about an extra turn of shooting against Tyranids or Orks.* Too overpowered. In addition, the ability to use jetpacks to avoid assault is already represented in your own movement phase. You don't want to add an ability that completely forgives laziness in moving your Crisis suits out of harm's way in your own turn.

Or reserve your last turn's assault move to use as an escape move in the opponant's assault phase.

You also have to understand how much shooting a crisis suit packs. An extra turn of shooting may mean your enemy takes two plasma shots and a burst cannon volley to the face. I think this would make them either too good, or too expensive. I Think Tau are too good as it is.

True. Most of the time I have no problem, but I like throwing around ideas and thought it would be fluffy ish. The only time it would help me is when I've been at parties the night before (drunk college chicks - yay!). Seriously, when I don't sleep, I feel Khornate and don't assault away

That i do agree on, it would be very fluffyish. I'm pretty sure that if Tau existed they'd have some kind of emergency response system that shoots the crisis suits away from combat.
