Default Tau HQ help

I've been thinking about buying a actual tau leader as my main HQ for my army, and i was wondering, does the sept of the hero have to match that of your chosen army? and if it doesnt, can you change their paint scheme to match yours? like Shas'o Ra'lai?

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

all my tau have metallic black plating with blue highlights and i have a bright red farsight running around a lot, i dont think it really matters what theyre painted like, but i could be wrong and you could gt stiff armed if a neckbeard that had its children (armys) bashed recently if they saw that, but i think you should be fine however you end up doing it

Ok, thank you. I've seen pics of Shas'O Ra'lai with a vior'la paint scheme and a farsight one too, was just wondering if, for example, you have to keep the heroes sept, (sacea) the same as your armies, (mine is vior'la)

I'm pretty sure that you can do whatever the hell you want, and that so long as you have an interesting background story for people who care enough to ask it wouldn't be a problem.

I know I went with an arctic style camouflage scheme for my army, and that even in the photo examples in the codex it shows multiple paint schemes for units of the same sept. In short, a convincing story will shut up the people who actually care.

So kinda like if i get Ra'lai, i can say that he was requested for a particular campaign?

you dont even have to go that far, you could just be like "he's here, deal with it"

I have a grey Shadowsun for this reason. It's fully okay, so long as you can pull the vaguest of stories out of your butt for the very few people who will ask.

It's like asking why Creed is on a campaign away from Cadia, confused as you duck behind a statue only to find that said statue is also concealing an Imperator Titan. Then you realise why he came...
