Default How does this work? (grande HQ)

I was thinking about the option of using my commander as a support aspect only. Since the rules technically allow no limit for the Signature systems for the commander, the C & C Node and the MultiSpec sensor suite are naturally interesting to combine, while still allowing you to get the, for instance, oh so important Iridium upgrade.

Since the systems above only work when the commander doesn't shoot, putting him in a HQ squad with bodyguards and thus allowing 2/3 of the models to shoot is not that great. The same variant in a crisis suit team is 3/4 which is better. I was thinking of the possibilities of making it even more better. And now to my question:

I was thinking: is it allowed to put the commander AND his bodyguards with the crisis team? I can't find any restrictions of independent characters AND their retinue joining other squads in the rule book.
What say you?

A commander is an independent character. A bodyguard unit is not, so they can't all go off and join another squad together. If you want a really big squad to benefit from this, take Farsight and give one of his 7 bodyguards support'O gear.

I realize that somehow that would be illogical, uut at the same time I can't read anywhere that the retinue doesn't make out a singe independent char unit.

Using Farsight is too close to powergaming to me, sadly.

the bodyguards dont have independent character, but you could have your HQ join like a blob squad of kroot or something, or you can take the bodyguard and have your HQ just leave the unit

It's not a matter of the unit not stating its not an independent character, otherwise by that logic everything in the book except independent characters would have to specify they had the special rule 'not independent' which would just be silly. Independent character, being a universal special rule can be found under the special rules section for units where it applies.

As for Farsight bomb being power-gaming; you're being way too nice if that's what you and your friends consider overpowered. True it's a pretty powerful squad, but the point cost and relative fragility will more than balance it out.

yeah farsight is one of those things where its not the most competitive thing to add, but it sure is fun too! but honestly you would be pretty surprised to see how fast an opponent can eat that unit away
