1/ Yes, you get 6 flamer templates.

2/ Yeh, it's pretty good against swarms. Just make sure you don't get assaulted or, give one of them Vectored Retro Thrusters and take some drones and they can hit and run after your combat (remember overwatch).

Has anyone else had good results with plasma as a powerful utility weapon?

It seems to be great at everything.

If the hordes are around 8, I think plasma can also be pretty darn good too.

8 models isnt really a horde.
What i have found effective is 3 suits (2 and the shasvre) the 2 have burst cannons x2, while the shas'vre has a command and control node. That gives 16 str. 5 shots that are twin linked. Now that is a horde killer, as it gives you the extra bit of range a template will not

If you want to horde mulch the best thing without doubt is 12 fire warriors with 2 gun drones and an ethereal with 2 gun drones backed up by 2 markerlight hits a turn. That gives you close to 50 fire warrior shots hitting on 2's at range 21 (6" move). At that level fire warriors become anti flyer as well. Seriously. For twice as many points you get 3 times as many shots that hit more effectively.

yeah, if you feel like fielding the easiest 2 killpoints EVER. but say your going against nids and a warrior hits him with a venom cannon, then not only are you out a hq, then you also lose your bonus for your fire warriors, who still may put up an fight. but when your building anti swarm you have to think about the rest of the field, unless your playing a 300 point game

only worth 2 if its kill points match, if hes buried in a sqaud he is fairly safe, if you still dont like the way that feels get aun'shi, 4+ inv, respectable CC and still dont have to be warlord althought he is 60 points more than a base Ethereal
