Default Best Forgeworld Unit For Tau

Simple enough question. Everyone has their own preference. I would like to hear them. I personally favor the xv9's, just because of 2 words, MOAR BATTLESUITS. yeah, they are expensive point wise, but they add quite a bit, an besides, if we can have battlesuits in heavy, elite, and hq, why not fast atk?

This question is on my mind as I am planning on buying the tau book from forgeworl soon.

In the 4th edition codex XV9s really had a purpose. They filled roles that the rest of our codex just couldn't do (rending, big blast templates, T5 suits). Now they are just straight up outshone by alternatives.

The same can be said for the tetra. Once the only way to bring markerlights... now... a balanced way to bring markerlights. But a balanced unit with balanced abilities... while very fair... isn't really anything to write home about for competitive play. Kind of the same deal with the turrets here. The sensory towers were pretty sweet... now they're just kind of meh. Very balanced...

The specialist XV8 suits are in roughly the same boat. Cool, but nothing particularly special.

Then there's the real winners of the current forgeworld ruleset! The flyers!
The remoras are amazing for the price. They are just the trolliest little flyers ever. Shrouded flying markerlights with heavy burst cannons all for the price (roughly) of a piranha.

And then of course there's the real Tau flyer. None of this codex garbage. The barracuda literally puts them to shame and proves why Tau fluff suggests the air caste are the best around. They are easily a match for the top flyers out there right now.

I am going to have to debate the inferiority of tau flyers. My sun shark proudly flaunts its superiority to vendettas and night scythes on a fairly regular basis. But I am with you about the fighter. It is utter garbage. And, as a plus, the barricuda looks absolutely beautiful.
I have been singing the remoras praises for a long while, and even went as far to scratch build some of my own (there is a decent proxy you can make from a skyray turret). I love them, as they are, in similar words to you, fantastic and great at annoyance.
Tetras are... for lack of a better word, not wanted by me. Every time a bring a marker light platform, be it tetras or pathies, they have died a painful death without doing anything.
I fully agree with you on the specialist xv8's. They are only useful in particular circumstances, similar to farsight and shadowsun in the old 'dex.

But hey, this is just my findings.

I'm just not seeing the superiority of the Tau bomber over either of those. Necrons can take twice as many night scythes for the price of the sunshark (roughly), and it's a transport! The vendetta outguns the sunshark without a second thought (with 3 twin-linked lascannons, it's like a trio of flying broadsides), and has better armour (those broadsides are hiding in a stormraven!), and can fly at any speed it wants without penalty (a sunshark moving over 18" can't fire with it's drones if they are still attached).

The sunshark might be the best Tau flyer in the codex... but compared to everything except Dark Angels... it's just not going to come close. It does however make a great example of a knee jerk reaction by GW to "flyers are too powerful! Scale'em back!"

Isn't it so ironic that overall, the bomber provides better air support then the air superiority flyer?

and I'll have to look up the rules for the remora, I have a couple of skyray turrent to spare, and some cheap ass flyers would be a great way to put the finger up at my local flying circus players.

I'm still not seeing it; the bomber isn't even coming close to the barracuda when you compare them side by side. The bomber's only edge is that it has super flexible shooting (pretty much the only unit I can think of that can shoot at 3 separate targets each turn) and an extra hull point... but the barracuda is way better armed with the weapons it has. An ion cannon (from a hammerhead), burst cannons that ignore cover, missile pods, and 4 seekers pretty much put it at double the firepower of the sunshark. It's also better at avoiding the loss of its hull points since it's got a +1 to cover and an extra point of side armour.

I can't remember for certain... but I'm pretty sure the barracuda is cheaper than the sunshark by a smidgen... they are pretty close to one another for cost.

To be more specific about what I meant, the bomber is better then the codex fighter by alot, I am aware the barracuda creams both.
