Default Amount of non-active members (FT please)

Whenever i look through the members list on every page there are ridiculous numbers of members that signed up but have never ever posted.

there are some from 5 years ago that have never posted even.

I think that we should have a system that automatically deletes accounts over 6 months old that have under 2 posts rather than just have them there clogging up the member list.

Your Thoughts?

I like helping members too. I even make signatures in my spare time for anyone that asks. Unfortunately someone else came and they are much better than me so i don't get any customers nowadays.

I don't see the need to prune old members as our current server is good enough to have a lot more members/posts (I'm not sure of the figures but we could assumably handle a hundred thousand before it starts to affect server speed)

On this line i think the sig board shouldn't allow new topics from members without enclave acess. (just so a new member can't come and do a lot of sigs)

It's fairly common for forums to have large numbers of inactive/zero posts.

There have been studies into this area (not required reading, but quite interesting ):

If we did remove inactive users, it would give us some small measure of a performance increase, but it wouldn't really be noticable to the average user because it would be too small and would take more resources to remove them on a regular basis then it would save IMHO.

Fairly interesting
From reading that TO has about 107 very active members (sounds about right) along with another 900 or so who post regulary (i think we have twice as many IMO), the rest are lurkers (i think quite a few don't even look at the forums any more, as they've left the hobby)

As i said earlier, we needn't delete old members as there's no real benefit of doing so.
