Default This seems really odd.

Take our Forum.

70,000 something members.

a little over 1.1 million posts.

15 posts per member average.

Then take a forum like WargamerAU

6300 members

975,000 posts

Average 150 posts. 10 times more than our lovely forum here.

So. While having over 70,000 members might look good for a forum we lapse in the average post count. I know of a few people (myself included) who look at the average posts per member on a forum.

Now we have users with 0 post count who have been a member since it started. I'm pretty sure they are not coming back anytime soon. What I mentioned aboved could be a potential block in how many active members we have.

My suggestion is can we filter out account with less than 5 posts that are over 2 years old? This will also free up some 50,000 user names I'm sure some people would like to use.

This forum has 10,000 members, not 70,000.

Thus the real post per member average is around 115.

But having said that, even if it were 15, I still wouldn't see a problem. Who cares what the average post per member is? I really doubt that anyone joins a forum based on that statistic.

Both 40k Online and Librarium Online have over 30,000 members - three times more than us - yet they're still growing. If they haven't run out of usernames yet with 30,000 members, I doubt that we, with 10,000, are anywhere near running out. And, assuming that memory and storage issues aren't a problem, I really don't see an issue here at all.

Over half of our members have less than five posts.

Deleting them all has no real advantage; if there's an inactive member with a username you want, you can just PM an admin and they can delete the account for you.

Whilst the average number of posts per member is not going to be worked out by potential new members, the overall member count may well be. It wouldn't make much difference from 5000 and 10,000, I admit, but it can't hurt, can it?

Actually the member count is 9211

I dont see why we shouldnt filter the amount of members here.

Would it not make the server work a tad faster?

10,074 now. :P

And I doubt it, TO doesn't use anywhere near it's capacity in space or bandwidth last time I checked with TO (abouit a year ago). Probably about 10-15%.

Crikey! This crazy clown causes commotion like the coming of Christ. Certainly, still a curious and cordial cavalier in the countenance of crazed cads, curs and creeps who condemn courtesy as something corny. The bottom of the main page, and the 'Forum Statistics' page, both say 10,074...

It says 10,074 at the top right too.

I think JD got 70,000 from the number of topics listed at the top right by mistake.
