Default Problems with "Show unread posts since last visit"

Hey there.

I often have interest in multiple forums (fora?) so I use the "Show unread posts since last visit" option to see what's been posted since I last checked the website. The benefit of this is that it also acts like a checklist, since ones I've read a post, it disappears from the list of unread posts.

Recently, however, I've noticed that not all of the unread topics show up; I'll have it down to a single page, and read half of the stuff on there, refresh to see if there's anything new posted, and have new stuff appear at the BOTTOM of the page that wasn't there previously.

Normally, extra posts would show up as a second (or more) page, but it shows me a single page when this error occurs.

Anyone know why? If so, is it possible to stop it from occurring?

I use this feature a lot but haven't noticed any problems - maybe it's theme-related. Which theme do you use?

Theme? I wasn't aware we could change the theme... :-[

It's light blue on white, and I'm presuming it's the standard theme since I haven't changed it since I got here.

It just sounds like there weren't many new posts....

No, no. New posts appeared AFTER the apparent last new post on the page, as if they'd been on page 2. But there wasn't a page 2 option.

Just to make sure I understand you -

You use "Unread ...>" and read X amount. You then go back to "unread.....>" and new stuff appears at the bottom?

Yeah?

Whats the timestamp on the new posts, as they may have only just been posted?

And, of course, What browser are you using?

That is precisely correct, Elle.

The new posts are older than the ones immediately above them. New posts, when posted, appear at the top of the page.

My browser is Firefox 3.0.1

Odd. Not sure I've run into this before, or if I've just never noticed.

Sounds alot like it's picking up modified posts by the mods. When a mod makes a change to someone's post, the forums don't change the timestamp on the post, merely the "last modified" timestamp which may get flagged up as an unread reply.

If that's the case, then there's an awful lot of mods making an awful lot of modifications to posts in the space of less than a minute.

Next time I'm away from the forum for a good amount of time (like when I go to bed tonight), I'll take some screenshots and upload them.
