Default Can the language filter be applied to common spelling mistakes??

It's just something that has popped into my head right now - can the language filter that we use to block naughty words be used to correct common spelling mistakes such as "teh"?

Yes it can, but whether we would do this I'm not sure...

But then nobody could say "teh interwebs"!

No the best example, but the point I'm trying to make is that sometimes people intentionally mis-spell things to get a point across, or to qoute people etc - if a compulsory spelling filter was added, they couldn't do that. There's already a spell check, that's enough - and if you're mis-spelling stuff constantly, you should use it anyway.

The language filter is a bit weird an the moment. If I type 'Exxagerated' it comes up with 'Ex agerated' then 'Ex-agerated' then 'Exaggerated'.

The problem is when certain people (as in, half the board, it seems) sometimes spell a word as an entirely different word.

Like "defiantly" in place of "definitely". Every time I see it used like that I want to strangle somebody... :P

There is also fact if we started using it on say the word "colour." Which do we enforce? The proper British way or the American way? (I know myself that I'm proud that I stick the U in, just to mark that I'm British and not American).

Ditto that, but I'm Canadian. I say we just enforce proper spelling on folks.

Perhaps have a sticky where we list common misspellings for American and Real English?

I wouldn't want to enforce the British spelling just for the sake of the pride of a number of members, and to be honest, colour and color etc (ack, had to remember to remove the U then lol) should be left up to a personal choice of the member in question, as they are both equally valid .

Of course not. I was suggesting the sticky instead of the language filter.
