The spam thread in the Enclave has been locked. Reason being, because it was spam. Now, I may just be naive, but a thread that was set up by a mod, to spam, has been closed down by another mod due to spam is not really making sense in my mind. I find that the spam thread has given most our members an opportunity to spam and say whatever we want. Other then just posting random topics that don't make sense. Now I do know that most of us who spend much time in the Enclave tend to do that, but I can almost assure you it could be much worse. The Spam Thread was very popular and I believe that it should be unlocked. Keeps a lot of the members entertained who just feel like spamming, and don't feel like they have to keep quiet in fear of becoming smitted. I'd appreciate if it could be unlocked and if not I would at least appreciate an actual response as to why it shall remained locked.

It was locked for a simple reason, the staff gave the members more rope so to speak in the enclave, and the members have been increasingly hanging the mods for it. Spam has soared in recent months and something must be done about it. In fact a general and very harsh crack down seems to be what is necessary. I wish it were not so, but despite a great many warnings, reminders and a lot of time and effort by the staff, the spamming and poor posting habbits have continued to rise and it's not just newbs doing it.

The Enclave has grown in popularity greatly and while that is all well and good, every member needs to realize that posts that are allowed in the Enclave are not acceptable on the rest of the forum. The spam boards have begun to overrun the rest of the forum to the detriment of the site. I urge every member to remember the rules and make sure to follow them. In the following months mods may prove to be far less lenient than before when it comes to infractions and more smites may be handed out. I myself had not smited nearly anyone until recently and now I've increasingly had to smite members who are far from new to the site and should know better by now.

If things get back on track than maybe the spam thread will be un-locked. Until then it will likely remain closed. I wish it didn't need to be done, the staff are not in a habbit of being harsh, but the line must be drawn somewhere, regretable as that is.

Just to reiterate was Vash has said, we've had alot of problems with spam and unacceptable posting in threads outside the Enclave. This is not only from new members but established ones and because of this we are having to take stern action. People are not respecting the site and that is unacceptable. When members stop treating the site like a chat room then some things may change. The leniency we have given in the past has been abused and so we will not be as tolerant as we have been.

I can only speak for myself, but in my boards new members will only get one warning for rule infractions and established members will not be given warnings.

Again, this isn't something we want to do but we feel that we have no other choice in the matter. If things improve we may loosen the reigns somewhat but as of now the actions of quite a few members are causing us to take these measures, which requires alot of extra work from the staff, and this will no longer be tolerated.

The thing is, I would really like a relaxed place with the enclaves, TO has a fairly strict standard of posting elsewhere, but the problem seems to be that people are increasingly taking the permission to spam here as a permission to generally post lower quality posts elsewhere.

Well I'm glad the mods have at least come forward with a response to the locking of the thread. I have to say that I have noticed various posts that contribute nothing to discussions recently as well, it does get quite annoying after a while as well. (and various topics that have been posted in the wrong boards for some reason)

While I'm sad too see it go, at least its for the good of the forum. This is the best forum on the internet with regards to post quality, and it would be a shame to lose that.

ok... let's think about this...

spam has increased in other threads over the boards, so you lock the spam thread where it's supposed to go...

Maybe I'm too logical for my own good, but that doesn't make the least bit of sense.. If you wanted to crack down on the spam that's appearing in other threads, then crack down on it where it's not supposed to appear. Give out the warnings/punishment to the folks that are spamming the non-spam threads.

No - what the mods are on about is getting rid of the source of Spam. Basically, the spam posts from the Spam topic are fine in the said topic. However, they are a poor influence and are spreading over the thread into other boards and as a resultspam is getting more common.

The thread just seems to say: "hey guys! Your new. Aren't you? If I am able to exist on this board then the crackdown on Spam on this board is fairly low. So post away"

And a forum our posts should be informative and constructive. Not one liners.
