Default Mark of the Valkyrie (Skyray list for Advanced users only)

1750 Pts - Tau Empire Roster - Skyray list

Total Roster Cost: 1750

HQ: Commander Shas'el (3#, 137 pts)(will join up with the other elites)
1 Commander Shas'el, 107 pts = (base cost 50 + Cyclic Ion Blaster 15 + Hard-wired Multi-tracker 5 + Hard-wired Target Lock 5 + Missile Pod 12 + Plasma Rifle 20)
1 Shield Drone, 15 pts
1 Shield Drone, 15 pts

HQ: Ethereal (1#, 50 pts)(will join up with the 12 man firewarrior squads)
1 Ethereal, 50 pts

Elite: Crisis Battlesuit (2#, 124 pts) (if you want a more horde orientated or arguable more balanced list drop these for another firewarrior squad)
1 Crisis Battlesuit, 62 pts = (base cost 25 + Missile Pod 12 + Plasma Rifle 20 + Multi-Tracker 5)
1 Crisis Battlesuit, 62 pts = (base cost 25 + Missile Pod 12 + Plasma Rifle 20 + Multi-Tracker 5)

Troops: Fire Warrior (6#, 60 pts)
6 Fire Warrior, 60 pts = 6 * 10

Troops: Fire Warrior (6#, 60 pts)
6 Fire Warrior, 60 pts = 6 * 10

Troops: Fire Warrior (12#, 120 pts)
12 Fire Warrior, 120 pts = 12 * 10

Fast Attack: Vespid Stingwing (11#, 182 pts)
10 Vespid Stingwing, 160 pts = 10 * 16
1 Strain Leader, 22 pts

Fast Attack: Pathfinder (11#, 181 pts)
8 Pathfinder, 96 pts = 8 * 12
1 Devilfish, 85 pts = (base cost 80 + Disruption Pod 5)

Fast Attack: Pathfinder (11#, 181 pts)
8 Pathfinder, 96 pts = 8 * 12
1 Devilfish, 85 pts = (base cost 80 + Disruption Pod 5)

Heavy Support: Sky Ray Missile Defence Gunship (1#, 170 pts)
1 Sky Ray Missile Defence Gunship, 170 pts = (base cost 125 + Smart Missile System 20 + Disruption Pod 5 + Multi-Tracker 10) + Blacksun Filter 5 + Targeting Array 5

1 Sky Ray Missile Defence Gunship, 170 pts = (base cost 125 + Smart Missile System 20 + Disruption Pod 5 + Multi-Tracker 10) + Blacksun Filter 5 + Targeting Array 5

The purpose of the blacksun filters is for dawn of war where the skyrays will fly up and mark some tasty targets for the Broadsides hopefully the pathfinders will also get lucky and mark some targets for the skyrays.

Heavy Support: Broadside Battlesuit (5#, 315 pts)
1 Broadside Battlesuit, 105 pts = (base cost 70 + Hard-wired Multi-tracker 5 + Hard-wired Target Lock 5 + Twin Linked Plasma Rifle 10 + Advanced Stabilization System 10 + Team Leader 5)
1 Broadside Battlesuit, 90 pts = (base cost 70 + Twin Linked Plasma Rifle 10 + Advanced Stabilization System 10)

CIB with a missle pod AND plasma rifle? You are wasing points trying to make him fit every combat role. Drop the shield drones, use cover saves generated by terrain or your vehicles via JSJ.

HQ: Ethereal (1#, 50 pts)(will join up with the 12 man firewarrior squads)
1 Ethereal, 50 pts

From the way your list is currently set up you are going to have 2-3 units capable of actually using his morale reroll. If you were going for some sort of tau foot list, I would be all for the etheral. But you are capitalizing on the Devilfish Chasis, so my advice is to leave the Etheral at home.

No complaints here, would recommend more of this type of set up

Troops: Fire Warrior (6#, 60 pts)
6 Fire Warrior, 60 pts = 6 * 10

Troops: Fire Warrior (6#, 60 pts)
6 Fire Warrior, 60 pts = 6 * 10

Troops: Fire Warrior (12#, 120 pts)
12 Fire Warrior, 120 pts = 12 * 10
Would switch this out for a unit of kroot either for screening purposes or outflanking

Fast Attack: Vespid Stingwing (11#, 182 pts)
10 Vespid Stingwing, 160 pts = 10 * 16
1 Strain Leader, 22 pts

Vespids are not completely terrible, but do not suit your list synergy. If you want anti-MEQ goodness, drop this unit and add a trio of fireknife suits.

Fast Attack: Pathfinder (11#, 181 pts)
8 Pathfinder, 96 pts = 8 * 12
1 Devilfish, 85 pts = (base cost 80 + Disruption Pod 5)

Fast Attack: Pathfinder (11#, 181 pts)

Heavy Support: Sky Ray Missile Defence Gunship (1#, 170 pts)

I see your reasoning, but you are relying on a 1:3 chance of the game actually being DoW. Or that off chance you are playing the cool guy Necron guy who is in love with Solar Pulse...

Heavy Support: Broadside Battlesuit (5#, 315 pts)
1 Broadside Battlesuit, 105 pts = (base cost 70 + Hard-wired Multi-tracker 5 + Hard-wired Target Lock 5 + Twin Linked Plasma Rifle 10 + Advanced Stabilization System 10 + Team Leader 5)
1 Broadside Battlesuit, 90 pts = (base cost 70 + Twin Linked Plasma Rifle 10 + Advanced Stabilization System 10)
1 Broadside Battlesuit, 90 pts = (base cost 70 + Twin Linked Plasma Rifle 10 + Advanced Stabilization System 10)
1 Shield Drone, 15 pts
1 Shield Drone, 15 pts
Outflanking terminators are few and far between. Stick with the SMS

Your list has me at a loss, are the SkyRays supposed to be wannabe mobile Long Fang squads? Problem with that, once they blow their load, they are nothing more than regular devilfish without the cargo room. I just don't see this list working against anyone that is that has a semi-organized list and knows that the only real threat are the broadsides who are hanging out by their lonesome in the back field.

i have and use a list that is very similar to this one i field 2 skyrays 1 railhead and then the broadsides and i find that i never really blow of all my ordanance on the sky rays, as i only have the hammerhead too draw enemy armour into my ambush of what of a better word so when you have a good stratergy, skyrays can be a good weapon.

@Oblivion i see your point on your first point of the on the three weapons systems but i like my commander to be versatile as for the shield drones i disagree i like the freedom to move around the board and not have to worry about having cover to jump to or even worse being TIED to cover jump out shoot jump back to same cover due to a lack of cover on the board.

they also offers protection from fast moving units who are going to maneuver round the cover and helps protect my commander from weapons that would insta death him.

as for the ethereal could i do without him probably but i need those pathfinders to stay together and the best way to ensure that is with the ethereal but the vespid and suits can use him as well though admittedly they will probably not need him perhaps not the best use of points.

i strongly disagree with swapping out the 12 man firewarrior team for kroot as this list is built to capitalize on markerlights and kroot can't use markerlights so they would not suit this list.

for your point on vespid i don't see how they don't suit my synergy vespid need markerlights to be really effective i think they really suit this list though i would probably replace them with more firewarriors and toss on extra seeker missiles on the devilfish these days.

i see your point on the blacksun filters BUT in Irish tournaments you are guaranteed at least two dawn of war engagements i guess thats not the case elsewhere but still it's only ten points so even in ordinary games it might still be worth it if you play a few games with mates in a league but yeah can be dropped up to the individual.

For the last point i agree i see most terminators coming with thunder shields now anyway not worth it there alright.

As for your final points you greatly underestimate the mobility and firepower of the skyrays like most people in every game i have successfully "blown my load" on the skyrays i've won so far at least.

Thanks for your comments and advice
