Default 1000 pt tournament list

This list is going to be entered into a team tournament at my LGS, so any advice on how to make this list more of a "team player" as well as general improvements would be appreciated.

Also, sorry that I'm not sure what my team mate's army will be, so I understand if giving compatability advice isn't possible. Both players will have 1000 pts tho, if that helps.

HQ
Shas'el- 97 pts
w/ MP, PR, HW MT, TA

Elites
XV8 Crisis Suit- 73 pts
w/ MP, PR, HW MT, TA

Troops
Fire Warriors- 225 pts
Models: 11+1 'ui
w/ pulse rifles and devilfish (Decoy Launchers)

Looks like a pretty solid all around list. Not knowing who your partner will be could be a bit of a problem, but see as how your list is fairly rounded it should easily compliment most armies it could be put with. But ill throw some things out and you can change where you see fit. I also counted 988 pts over all, so you got a little room to wiggle.

HQ: A good all around set up i suppose (dont really like fire knives but if they do it for ya go fir it), however i feel its wasted on a commander. I suggest swapping out the MP for a CIB, as it will give you some very good all around fire power for killing anything from gaunts to termies. Also, like the rest of your suits hes fairly fragile atm, a well placed lascannon or krak missile will turn him into scrap, so i suggest at least some shield drones (ill free up some points down the way).

Elite: Again, both look solid, but like the commander they are both going to be fairly fragile. Consider grouping them together and giving them a set of shield drones. And if you do group them together, maybe give the non HQ unit TL PR and MP or TL MP and PR. That way you can increase his accuracy since you will have to drop the TA. Or, consider running them as helios instead, as the Ion cannon can dish out the pain just as good as any death rain suit (maybe better). They will give you some extra anti-tank in case your rail gun gets knocked out.

Troops: Heres where im gonna ask questions/cut points. How do you plan on using these guys? Are they just there for objectives, or do you plan to use them for some extra fire power? Either way i suggest cutting some troops. If your just using them for objectives consider dropping them down to 6 man teams with warfish (SMS, MT, TA, DP) it comes to 190ish (per team) points and acts as a good mobile fire base that can take some hits. If you want them as actual combat troops, make them 10 man teams with 'ui w/BK. It will save you 40 pts with out to much of a drop in over all fire power.

Heavy support: Looks solid as a rock, as much as i like rail guns, the ion cannon as served my well in my last few games. However just remember that that rail gun is all you got to hit tanks with. So id make sure it was deployed in relative safety and kept over 18" away from every enemy.

My 2 cents

Good call on the helios suits I think. As I was writing I forgot that this would end up being a 2000 pt game essentially, so I was thinking along the lines of anti-transport more than heavy vehicles, so thanks for the catch.
Otherwise, what did you mean by the non HQ unit? both of those suits are non HQ unless i noobed up some rule.

I was going to use them in a FoF kind of way. The max squad size was really only for the extra 4 shots I'd be getting. Would it possibly be overkill if I dropped them to 10 man teams AND added the warfish upgrades? As there's no guarantee that my teammate will bring a reasonable amount of scoring units, I want to guarantee that whatever I choose to FoF dies that turn.

Also, how would you feel about adding in 1-2 carbines to each squad? You know, on the off-chance that I fight the couple of armies that aren't fearless or close to it.

By HQ units, i meant like Shas'vres in case you were to group them both into the same squad. Sorry about any confusion there.

Remember that the FoF isnt near as good as it was before 5th edition. However it will still work if you can get positioning right, and hopefully kill the squad your shooting at. A warfish might not be bad all around, just remember that if you drop the squads down to 10 FW you will only save 40 pts, while the rest of the warfish upgrades will be 35 or more points a fish.

id say crunch some numbers and throw another list up and see what you get point wise, and then go from there.

Hey, not sure if this was mentioned explicitly, decoy launchers probably aren't going to be useful, and it only applies to glancing hits that roll immobilized. Not only is this event rare, but due to the reduced impact of immobilized skimmers, it is almost preferred in some cases to weapon destroyed.

Well new list with the main changes in the suit area. Not sure that the 2 shield drones for the crisis team are necessary. Would it be more point effective to run all the suits in one squad?

Also, reaized that by dropping 4 fire warriors and then adding sms to the 2 devilfish, I get an extra 4 shots per turn for the same point cost. ;D

HQ
Shas'el- 130 pts
w/ CIB, PR, HW MT, TA, 2x shield drones

Elites
XV8 Crisis Suit (team leader)- 112 pts
w/ FB, PR, TA, HW MT, HW TL, 2x shield drones
XV8 Crisis Suit- 67 pts
w/ MP, TL PR

Troops
Fire Warriors- 200 pts
Models: 9+1 'ui
w/ pulse rifles and devilfish (sms)

Fire Warriors- 200 pts
Models: 9+1 'ui
w/ pulse rifles and devilfish (sms)

Heavy Support
Hammerhead- 165 pts
w/ railgun, burst cannons, MT, disruption pod

Hammerhead- 130 pts
w/ Ion cannon, burst cannons, MT, disruption pod

comes out to 1004 points

Looks pretty good, and yes you can run the crisis suits in the same sqaud. The shield drones are there so you can allocate wounds to them what would other wise instant kill you suits.
