Well after taking a break from Tau for a while i've decided to jump back on whatever thier equivilant to a horse is, by going into the Baltimore tournament. My last list i've just realised is extremely mediocre and now I have written up a highly mobile list I think will cover all the bases. So without further ado...

Total: 162pts HQ 2: 2 Crisis Bodyguard Each with: Missile Pod, Burst Cannon, Sheild Generator, Hard Wired Multi Tracker Total: 160pts
Elite 1: 3 Stealth Suits Fusion Blaster, Shas'vre Total: 132pts Elite 2: 3 Stealth Suits Fusion Blaster, Shas'vre Total: 132pts Elite 3: 3 Stealth Suits Fusion Blaster, Shas'vre Total: 132pts
Troops 1: 6 Fire warriors Total: 60pts Troops 2: 6 Fire warriors Total: 60pts Troops 3: 6 Fire warriors Total: 60pts
Fast Attack 1: 8 Pathfinders Devilfish, Targeting Array, Decoy Launchers Total: 186pts Fast Attack 2: 8 Vespid Stingwings Strain Leader Total: 134pts
Heavy Support 1: Hammerhead Railgun, Smart Missile System, Multi Tracker Total: 170pts Heavy Support 2: Hammerhead Railgun, Smart Missile System, Multi Tracker Total: 170pts Army Total: 1,498pts

|

It looks a little odd to me. The Pathfinders, for example, don't have any seeker missiles to guide in, so they're going to be helping raise the BS of other units - but you don't have any big units of stealths or fire warriors, which are the usual candidates for such assistance. You've got an airbursting fragmentation projector on a Shas'O which would be better swapped with one of his bodyguards' burst cannons (since the AFP doesn't benefit from his BS), and a marker drone in that unit that's going to see very little use if it's jump-shoot-jumping into burst cannon range. (Note that the bodyguards don't use a separate force organisation slot, so they're technically not 'HQ 2'.)
Your stealth suits aren't my usual style, but they should be workable - I'd just recommend dropping the shas'vres down to team leaders and maybe spending the spare points on bonding knives. Having the last battlesuit rally can be a big deal when he's packing an anti-tank gun. Your hammerheads are crying out for decoy launchers to keep them alive - drop the SMSes if you have to. The greatest surprise in your list is how light your troops are. They don't have the firepower to deal with a real horde, and it hardly counts as a mobile list without the ability to pull off a Fish of Fury. This might not be so important, though, if hordes are a rarity in your local tournament scene. |

personally I would rather go with disruption pod than decoy, although they are both cheap and good. You could really get both if you're worried about big guns.
Whats the story behind 3 man stealth squads instead of a 6 and a 3? Just curious. I would much rather have the suits as an elites choice, making the commander and independent character. Maybe you don't want this...? It would be easy to combine two of the FW squads, but I'm sure they're like that for a reason. An observation: you have 18 FWs in a 1500pt army, whilst I field 25 in my 1000pt. But I suppose you like stealth teams more. I like them too, just not that much. Overall, I like the lack of conventional ground troops. Isn't there a limit for how few "troops" you can field in the tournament though? Perhaps I will see you there. |

I do know my list is very very odd, buy i'm trying to have the lots of stealth suits theme going. Well after hearing what you have to say i'm thinking maybe 24 fire warriors, 2 squads of six stealth suits one squad of battlesuits (lots of medicre doom ie AFP missiles, and burst cannons) a single shas'o and replace a hammerhead with a skyray, i'll probably write up a new list tonight so keep yer eyes peeled.
PS: as is obvious, even though I played them for a while I am very inexperienced at Tau, being the reason i've posted on the forums. |

skyray is very tempting. But don't you want pathfinders too?
Pathfinders are just plain awesome, and they're infiltrators extrordinaire. Up to you though. I don't mind taking a devilfish. I think they're pretty useful. btw, do you need to pay extra to play in the tournament? I've never been. |
