Evening, now that I finally got my new tau codex, I updated my current tournament armyilist. I tried to add as many 'tau' things I could in to the list.
The list contains: Huge amount of Skimmers Big amount of (free) Drones Lots of Markerlights and Seekers Handful of Crisis suits Good number of Firewarriors All in all, I think this is 'the' list which is the best to describe my image of MechTau. I would like to hear your comments about it, be it good or bad, and if you don't want to comment, which me luck for my next Tournament (in 3 weeks) +----------+ 1850 +----------+ HQ Commander, Shas'el, (1) @78 TL Missile Pod, Targetting Array Elites XV8 Criris Team (2) @94 2 Crisis Suits, TL Fusion Blasters, Flamers XV8 Criris Team (2) @94 2 Crisis Suits, TL Fusion Blasters, Flamers XV8 Criris Team (2) @96 2 Crisis Suits, TL Missile Pods, Targetting Array Troops Fire Warrior Team (8+1+2) @175 8 Fire Warriors, Pulse Rifles 1 Devilfish, Decoy Launchers, Seeker Missile, Landing Gear 2 Gun Drones, TL Pulse Carbines Fire Warrior Team (8+1+2) @175 8 Fire Warriors, Pulse Rifles 1 Devilfish, Decoy Launchers, Seeker Missile, Landing Gear 2 Gun Drones, TL Pulse Carbines Fire Warrior Team (8+1+2) @175 8 Fire Warriors, Pulse Rifles 1 Devilfish, Decoy Launchers, Seeker Missile, Landing Gear 2 Gun Drones, TL Pulse Carbines Fast Attack Pathfinder Team (8+1) @191 8 Pathfinders, Pulse Cabines, Markerlights 1 Devilfish, Decoy Launchers, Seeker Missile, Landing Gear 2 Gun Drones, TL Pulse Carbines Pathfinder Team (7+1) @179 7 Pathfinders, Pulse Cabines, Markerlights 1 Devilfish, Decoy Launchers, Seeker Missile, Landing Gear 2 Gun Drones, TL Pulse Carbines Piranha Skimmer Team (2+4) @160 2 Piranhas, Fusion Blasters, Targetting Array, Decoy Launchers 4 Gun Drones, TL Pulse Carbines Heavy Support Hammerhead (1) @145 Ion Cannon, Smart Missile System Multitracker, Target Lock, Decoy Launchers Targetting Array, Landing Gear Hammerhead (1) @145 Ion Cannon, Smart Missile System Multitracker, Target Lock, Decoy Laucnher Targetting Array, Landing Gear Hammerhead (1) @140 Sky Ray, 2 Burst Cannons, 2 Network Markerlights Multitracker, Decoy Launchers Target Lock, Landing Gear Total: 1847 Models - Infantry: 39 / 7 / 14 - Vehicles: 8 / 2 TACTICS: The tactics of this list are pretty straitforward. Commander, along with the MP Crisis team go to pop enemy light vehicles and big monsters. These contain usually Carnifexes, Wraithlords, Rhinos etc. The other suits drop, if able, to enemys flanks and rear and then pop enemy hidden armor. They are also used to target big nasties, if other targets are lacking. Notice also how thay can reroll their scatter dice, when the spot is seen by either of the Pathfinder devilfishes. Pathfinders do the usual job, they light up targets and then it goes boom as all those seekers find their way towards it. Sky Ray provides most of the seekers, but the list contains enought seekers to do the job, if the Sky Ray is destroyed. The other Hammerheads target transports, marines, light vehicles (specially eldar skimmers) and big nasties, such as carnifexes. Piranhas will hurry to the enemies flank and cause some havoc, targetting hidden armor. They are also usually supported my markerlight hits. Also, they will deploy their drones in conjuction with the all other units, and make them contests the middle of the board, slowing down assault elements and causing priority checks. Fire Warriors to what they are good at, taking down light vehicles and enemy infantry. After first few turns, they will also get support from the markerlights.

I play a very similar list (well, the FireWarrior count is exact, and the vehicle count is roughly the same) and I say its pretty solid.
I've never used Piranhas thus far so I can't give you feedback on them.....only that for 3 fast skimmers with tank killing ability, they didn't cost you very much point wise so good on ya. Never used a Sky Ray either.....my Mech Tau is 3 Hammerheads (2 RH and 1 IH). The only thing I'd really worry about is your ability to bust heavy heavy armor. What you've got going for you is weight of str 8 fire from all the Seekers, so that could give you some lucky breaks, and you've also got Suicide Squads of XV8's. The Marker Beacons will be key as your Deep Strike with the Fusion teams will NEED to be accurate (within the 6" Melta Range). I'm not a fan of tooling up the Hammerheads as far as you did....as far as I'm concerned, they only need the weapon systems, multi tracker, and decoy launchers. You could spend the TL points and whatnot elsewhere. Maybe get an 8th pathfinder in that one team. Either way, good solid Mech Tau list, I like it.

Looks like a solid tournament list. For regualr play it would seem a little too "generic" for my taste - lots of identical units - but that is not really a consideration in most tourneys. Good Job and Good Hunting
