Default The Cheapest 500 Points: Questions

Okay, so I'm practically broke, and still want a 500 point Tau Army, eh?

So, I'm planning to make this a relatively static army that uses Mont'ka to zip in and nuke threats, as in a 500 point list, long range heavy weapons are pretty expensive. Also, fluff-wise, I can't take any independent drone squads, so no Snipers or Drone Squads.

I'm also trying to churn this list out with a minimum of excess bits, as my wallet is severely... empty.

Also, also, simply bogging down a couple of teams with wargear won't work. These 500 points have to be able to do things...

I've already got 13 FW, two with carbines (I needed them, fluff-wise once more), a Battlesuit with BC, MP and MT, and four Gun Drones. I'm going to get another set of 12 FW, but after that, it gets confusing. A Devilfish to take objectives with infantry? Or Piranhas for surgical strikes? Maybe a Broadside? I dunno. I need good reasons.

Oh, and to make matters worse, my main opponents in the area have Space Marines and Necrons. MEQ, anyone?

Plasma Rifle

Targeting Array
Hard-wired multi-tracker
This should be good for killing MEQ's at a superb rate.

[u]-Elite- Points: 124

[u][i]XV8 'Crisis' Battlesuit Team - 62 Points

Missle Pod

Multi-tracker
This is your secondary MEQ hunter, he should be able to assist your Shas'el in killing MEQ.

[u][i]XV8 'Crisis' Battlesuit Team - 47 Points
1 Squad Member
Twin-linked Missle Pod
Flamer
This should be able to bust all (if any) tanks in this level of points game, and double as a troop hunter if they get too close or you run out of armour to hunt.

[u]-Troops- Points: 200
Quote:
[u][i]Fire Warrior Team - 100 Points

[u][i]Fire Warrior Team- 100 Points
Shas'ui
7 Squad Members
Markerlight
These should do pretty good in low point games, at ballistic skill four per turn (with the Markerlight), they can mince low armour troops and force MEQ's to die just by high amount of dice rolls.

[u]Total Points: 506
[hr]
This list should have enough to handle MEQ with such a high volume of shots at ballistic skill four should force him into submition just by amount of saving rolls. That Deathrain (Twin-linked Missle Pod) 'Crisis' Suit should be able to bust the low amount of tanks in a 500 point game. You have enough MEQ hunting power for a low amount of points game, and yeah I guess that is it.

Thanks!

An update is that the points got bumped up to 750... and that my foe may or may not be getting a *dun dun dun* MONOLITH. At 750 points.

The list seems perfect - I actually didn't think of including markerlights, so those helped fill in points rather nicely. Maybe adding a team of sniper drones (by increasing the point barrier, I got past that barrier, hurray!), and a Broadside or two to deal with that hulking rock. Or drop the second broadside for a fusion blaster Piranha.

Once again, thank you. Any other comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Ok, the Marker Drone has been added to your Shas'el so he can Markerlight for your Vespid Stingwing strain (they need it to be effective), the Hammerhead with a Railgun should be able to kill any vehicle, I have also removed the Deathrain 'Crisis' Battlesuit.

Hmm, but those bugs aren't so great. Those gauss flayers wipe them out, and fast! Despite having guns that rip through Necrons, how can I save their winged behinds in the next turn?

use of cover can help them if you can get them in it and attack

Also you can screen them with your Hammerhead so you can keep them alive longer by chance, in cover and behind a Hammerhead they will live long because of target priority tests.

Hmm, but at the same time, where normally I would be able to laugh in their faces as shots bounce off AV13, they just flay me dead... so maybe something a little more expendable, like a Piranha or something?

I don't know where you would get the points, but that was the first thing I thought of.

Oh good lord. A Monolith in 750 points? You should absolutely decimate him.

Just use cover. The worst part of fighting Necrons for Tau is killing big blocks of Warriors and their fast stuff. As long as you are using JSJ effectively, the Warriors should have a hard time chasing down Crisis suits.
