Default Tau Mech 1500pts

Heya, haven't been active here for a while. Anyway, I will post my old ideas for your consideration. I am not nearly done painting this, but part of this is playable at the time being (we play 400pts CP and 750pts). Anyway, please post any thoughts and comments you might have

Here's the list:

HQ 2: Shas'o
plasma rifle, missile pod, cyclic ion blaster, hard-wired multi-tracker Total: 127 pts

Elite 1: Shas'vre XV8
twin-linked missile pod, airbursting fragmentation projector, hard-wired multi-tracker Total: 78pts

Elite 2: 1 Shas'ui XV8
missile pod, plasma rifle, hard-wired multi-tracker, team leader, targeting array Total: 77pts

Elite 3: 6 Shas'ui XV15
Stealthsuits Total: 180pts

Troop 1: 8 Shas'la Fire Warriors
Devilfish APC, multi-tracker, decoy launchers, targeting array, smart missile system Total: 200pts

Troop 2: 12 Shas'la Fire Warriors
Shas'ui Team leader; Ta'lissera bonding, Devilfish APC, multi-tracker, decoy launchers, targeting array, smart missile system Total: 255pts

2 shas'o... Make the other one 'el and bound your firewarriors... Ld 7 is not too good actualy. If you bound them you will have Ld 8 and that under half-strenght bonus thingy! (Ld 8 from the 'ui)

I will not make one of them Shas'el because I need the BS and I really like the 3-weapon versatility. However, I have been considering Command and Control Node.

And spending 20 points on getting +1 ld? No thanks, I feel that there are better ways to use 20 points The Fire Warriors are not really the core of this army and will generally not be relied upon to do too much.

(Side Note: Bonding and Teamleader cost 15 pts, not 20. Bonding got cheaper in the new dex! yay! But if you take the FoF approach, I personally don`t think its necessary).

Yeah, and thats the problem. This list is basically "Three Hammerheads and two Commanders (but we have 3 Crisis, as well!)". There really is nothing else, and event he FW look like they were taken just to get a Warfish on the table.
I don`t like it, I wouldn`t play it, I wouldn`t enjoy playing against it. But thats my personal opinion.

But I guess you want some advise, and not a lecture about how a cool army REALLY has to look like .

Don`t add a CC node - your vehicles don`t take TP tests, and the Commanders both have ten. The Kroot can`tuse it, anyways, and the FW will shoot at the next taget if deployed in FoF, as will the Stealths. The Crisis have Ld 8, and just buying for two Crisis suits this expensive upgradeisn`t enough imo.

Apart from this its a quite fragile list, not much you can afford to loose before it hurts your overall firepower... I`d suggest taking more FWs (ten for the squad), dropping one Commander and adding more Kroot, Piranhas, or FWs to your list.

Hw in a targeting array for at least one of them. this list is too weird. you need to decide a play style and roll with it this army doesnt appera to have an overall strategy at all. get mroe firewarriors that's all i can give for advice apart from make an entirely new list.

I fail to see how this is a problem. In most serious Tau armies I've seen (mech anyway) there are 2 commanders and 3 hammerheads. Why? These are the best choices available in the Tau army; high survivability, high damage-output and they can always be relied upon.

Pretty much, yeah: they are compulsory. I originally ran 2 squads of 12 in 2 Warfishes, I might go back to this idea. In that case the Kroot would be left and probably a crisis.

Everyone's entitled to have an opinion. However, I am very very curious as to why you wouldn't like to play against it? Is it too powerful so that it gets boring because you lose, or is it too weak so that it gets boring because you win easily? Or is it just plain annoying to face?

Well I will most certainly not load up on Troops. Piranhas never really caught my attention either. Fragile? Well, that depends. Most of the time it will be hard even having LOS to parts of the army. The skimmers are quite durable and the Kroot can stick it out in the woods.

So; let's assume I cut down some on the crisis suits; remove the Kroot and make the Troops 2x10 FW's in 2 Warfishes. Thoughts? This would make it a pure-Tau pure-mech list with the power situated around the durable skimmers and the awesome crisis suits. I could also potentially grab a piranha to act as scoring unit and decoy.

they might not be scoring, but commanders play a vital role in my gameplan. IC status = no fire received if played correctly, and they pack one **** of a punch!

I suppose the Piranha will go in favour of one FW squad with team leader and bonding. Oh, I was thinking of the FW squads as one: 12 + leader/bond -> 8 alone. What do you think about this as compared to 2x10 ?

Yeah, looks better and more Mech-Tauish ;D

But I don?t like the two Shas`Os fluffwise. One Elwith Targetting array would be better, imo. But thats just a fluffthing.
