Default Re: 1500 pts Tau

I have read through your list several times. I keep gettign stuck at the ethereal and honor guard. I have no experiene using this unit. It appears to be a static unit, whic is not necessarly bad, but I think I would add some shield drones. Becasue I am so unfamilair with how it might play out, I'd be tempted to give the shas'ui and ethereal a HWDC and 2 shield drones each. Maybe 2 gun drones to the shas'ui and shields for the Aun. I am just thinking out loud here.

Overall your list is good. Nice and tidy. With 119 points you coudl ad a couple of crisis suits. Maybe only one if you did add some drone to the comman squad. If you did add only one crisis suit the other points might go well in your pathfinder team. It looks like the DF may need a multi tracker to keep it moving over 6". If you can still fire the BC at 12" without it then ignore that. I have to check the main rule book to be sure.

Hi,

The list is fine, but I see a few units with odd pts costs, and a few others with need of twicking.

I'll go through the list unit by unit:

Etheral & Honour guard: I ca't wok out how you came to you pts cost of 199. I would use a full squad of 12 with nothing but the BS4 upgrade (which I make 194 pts for the etheral and honour guard). I've haven't used the etheral but he could be very good in a mainly static force such as yours.

Shas'el: You should immediately swap the multi-tracker hard point for a targeting array, and then get a hard-wired multi-tracker. He goes up to 97 pts (an increase of 11.5%) while he shoots 25% better (BS5 over BS4).

Stealths: Lots of people rave about stealths, and I've had good success with my unit of 4, so I think these are fine

Lack of Crisis: With no crisis and no ion cannon you a bit short on str 7 shots (for light vehicles), so I would advice you use your spare pts into a unit of 2 crisis. With 2 fireknife with the leader upgraded to BS4, or a fireknife (again upgraded to BS4) and a deathrain.

Fire Warriors: Perfect. Another option some people use is to give the shas'ui a markerlight and hard wired target lock, and although it would be nice to mark for your large stealth squads I think you have enough markerlights with the pathfinders.

Pathfinders: Again I can't work out how you came up with 170 pts. I make the unit 191 pts. Normally I would suggest moving seekers missiles to hammerheads rather than devilfishs (as the hammerheads are scoring units) but with the free move of the pathfinders fish you may be able to get side armour first turn with seeker missile. Another idea is to drop the pathfinders all together, you could give the fire warrior sahs'uis markerlights if you wanted a few markerlights. You can get so much for 191 pts.

Broadside: Fine as he is, but an option is to also give him plasma rifles, so when he finishes killing vehicles he can ge good at killing heavy infrantry as well.

Hammerhead: Decoy Launchers, along with multitrackers should a manditory choices for hammerheads, even ahead of the disruption pod. If possible have all three, but if you can only afford two have the decoy Launchers and multitracker.

Spare Pts: With the spare pts I would lose a few pts from the list to fit in a 2nd hammerhead with a railgun or 2 crisis suits with missile and plasma. My personal preference would be to drop the pathfinders and add a few markerlights to fire warrior shas'uis so you can afford both the 2nd hammerhead and 2 crisis suits.

Anyway those are my thoughts, hope they're useful.
